Grace Tame is headlining Purpose Conference, Australia’s largest purpose-driven business event held at Carriageworks Sydney from 19-20 October 2022.

Grace Tame will be in conversation with Marque Lawyers, Managing Partner Michael Bradley from 9.15am – 10.45am on 19 October, and together they will explore:

  • The cultural power of the media to set agendas and narratives, reinforce stereotypes and shape opinions
  • How some media’s language choices can cause harm
  • The responsibility of media and journalists when dealing with and reporting on vulnerable people, such as sexual violence survivors, and the consequences of not having a trauma-informed approach
  • What all businesses can learn about their responsibility when stepping into sensitive and trauma topic territories
  • Whose job is it to advocate for public policy and law reform, and should it all fall on the victims

The Purpose Conference will bring together more than a thousand forward-thinking speakers, businesses and brands and over 600 attendees across two days to engage in an immersive experience of talks, workshops, creativity and networking.

Purpose Conference founder and sector leader Sally Hill said, “There are few commentators better placed in Australia at the moment than Grace Tame and Michael Bradley when it comes to reflecting on the responsibility of one of Australia’s core institutions: the media. Since Grace’s time as Australian of the Year in 2021, she has much to say about her experiences. There has never been a more important time to focus on the corporate and moral responsibility of the media.”

“It’s crucially important all businesses understand the full breadth of corporate responsibility when stepping into sensitive territories, and the role we can all play in standing up and against the  re-traumatising of survivors. The lessons and action to be undertaken here is compelling, and in Grace Tame’s words: ‘The 24-hour news cycle might be 24 hours to some, but to others, it is their life. Public interest is fleeting. Trauma is forever.’” said Hill.

The conference program will feature eight themes with corresponding world-class business leaders sharing their knowledge and experiences ranging across responsible technology, impact capital, climate solutions, circular economies, diversity and First Nations wisdom.
