A tiny community north of Brisbane are throwing open the farm gates to celebrate country hospitality and that quintessential Queensland charm with the inaugural Mundubbera Blueberry Festival from Friday 21 – Saturday 22 October 2022.

Located just 4 hours north of Brisbane, and just over 2 hours from Bundaberg, Mundubbera in the North Burnett is a major blueberry growing region, which was deeply affected by the closed borders of COVID, forcing farmers to discard tonnes of valuable fruit as the picking was typically done by backpackers and overseas workers.

The new festival is an important event for locals and will stimulate the visitor economy as lovers of live music, culinary delights and of course blueberries, are invited to come, stay and play at the two-day festival.

Celebrating the community, people, produce and place, the weekend is jam packed with events, including an evening of feasting on local produce under the stars with the Gastronomical Delight by Night on Friday 21st October.

The banks of the Burnett River will play host to artisan markets and free family fun at the Berry Big Day Out on Saturday 22nd October, before the Blueberry Jam Sesh kicks off at 5pm in Archer Park. Straight off the back of his new album tour, Russell Morris headlines the festival, alongside crowd favourites Jem Cassar-Daley, Creedence Clearwater Revival and Anna Farquhar.

Home to the largest covered blueberry farm in the Southern Hemisphere, the Mundubbera community is deeply proud of the area’s farming history as it produces and exports quality citrus, table grapes, pecans, mangoes, avocados, beef, and pork around Australia.

Mundubbera Enterprise Association (MEA), President and Event Coordinator Melinda Thorburn describes their excitement to “support the local industries, while driving economic recovery for our small town, by offering a fun weekend where the whole family can reconnect and enjoy live events”.

“With community at the heart of everything we do, we cannot wait to welcome locals and visitors to the area, to showcase what makes Mundubbera so special, through events that hero our regions produce and people”.

Visitors to the region should expect to be surprised at the magic of the North Burnett’s culture, experiences, and natural wonders. Whether that’s exploring the Monto Art Trail, hiking the sandstone wilderness of Cania Gorge or tapping into Australia’s history at the Reginald Murray Williams Australian Bush Learning Centre in Eidsvold.
