On behalf of the Board of Perth Region Tourism Organisation (PRTO), trading as Destination Perth, Chairman Professor Ross Dowling AM is delighted to announce the appointment of Sonja Mitchell as the new Chief Executive Officer.

Ms Mitchell brings a wealth of tourism knowledge to the role with over 25 years of industry experience, having worked in several positions, including Chief Executive Officer, General Manager, Managing Director and as a tourism consultant to many businesses. Sonja has been a member of a number of Boards, including Regional Tourism Organisations and also spent six years as a Commissioner at Tourism Western Australia. She is highly regarded by the industry and government.

Destination Perth Chairman Ross Dowling welcomed Sonja’s appointment. “With Sonja’s strong leadership skills, tourism passion, knowledge and experience, I am confident she will help lead the organisation to even greater heights.”

Sonja said, “I am passionate about the tourism industry within Western Australia and am specifically committed to cementing the Perth region as the western gateway to Australia. I love Perth and its surroundings and am excited at the prospect of leading the promotion of the region and working with our valued stakeholders to position Perth as a “must-visit” and experientially diverse destination.”

The Board and staff of PRTO sincerely thank outgoing Chief Executive Officer Tracey Cinavas-Prosser for her significant contribution, dedication, and achievements over the past five years. “As an organisation and from a tourism and business perspective, Tracey has done an outstanding job, and we wish her all the best for the future,” Professor Dowling said.

More than 40 candidates applied for the role, and a rigorous recruitment and selection process was undertaken. Ms Mitchell will commence in the role on Monday, 17 October.
