Five thousand participants have gathered in Sydney this week for one of the largest international business events in Australia since borders opened in March this year.

The MDRT (Million Dollar Round Table) Global Conference 2022 has attracted 5000 participants over four days and BESydney estimates will generate $16M in direct expenditure for the local economy.

NSW Minister for Tourism, Ben Franklin welcomed the return of MDRT and its global community to Sydney: “Sydney’s major events calendar is already bustling with arts, culture and sporting events, and I welcome the return of significant international business events to round out the program in Australia’s global city”, the Minister added.

“It is also worth noting that 45 per cent of these delegates are flying in from India – a great testament to the Government’s efforts securing direct flights from this high growth tourism market.”

The MDRT Global Conference in Sydney will provide opportunities for the global delegation to hear from industry leaders, particularly from this region, addressing local and global trends, learn insights from some of the best minds in the world and exchange innovative ideas with their peers to advance their businesses.

Now in its 95th year, the MDRT is a global, independent association of the world’s leading life insurance and financial services professionals from more than 500 companies in 70 nations and territories.

Australia’s insurance industry has had a long history with the US-based Association, dating back to when Frank Noble Lowndes of Sydney and London became the first overseas member in 1930.

BESydney CEO, Lyn Lewis-Smith, said: “MDRT’s return to Sydney is a great sign that business confidence is returning. Looking ahead, BESydney’s forward pipeline is very strong, with both retained but rescheduled events impacted by the pandemic, as well as new wins, already building up for a bumper 2023.”

The MDRT Global Conference is taking place at the ICC Sydney from 28-31 August 2022.

Geoff Donaghy, CEO, International Convention Centre Sydney said, “As ICC Sydney’s international events calendar continues to build, it is gratifying to see economic benefits that reach through the venue’s long supply chain. This announcement is testament to the close partnership we have with BE Sydney, and we look forward to welcoming this important event back to ICC Sydney.”
