Queenstown Airport is gearing up for the school holiday period with two busy long weekends expected.Over Easter weekend, between Thursday 17 April and Monday 21 April, there will be 175 flights (arrivals and departures) with 21,000 passengers anticipated to pass through the terminal. The following Friday 22 April to Monday 25 April, over 17,000 passengers and 141 flights are expected.
Queenstown Airport CEO Glen Sowry says he’s looking forward to seeing the airport buzzing over the next couple of weeks.
“Australians will be starting to travel across the ditch, and although they can’t fly directly into Queenstown yet, we know domestic connections from Auckland and Christchurch are strong. It’s also the domestic Easter school holidays so Kiwi families will be visiting the region while locals head off to enjoy a break.
“We expect the airport to be busy, and with COVID still circulating, some of our partner agencies might have smaller teams than usual. We encourage those travelling out of Queenstown to arrive at the airport at least 60 minutes prior to departure to allow plenty of time to check in and go through screening.”
Last year (2021) there were 168 flights and around 22,000 passengers over the Easter weekend while pre-COVID in 2019 there were about 30,000 domestic passenger movements.
