The Art Gallery Society of New South Wales and Regent Seven Seas Cruises®, the world’s leading luxury ocean cruise line, are thrilled to announce a new partnership reflecting both organisations’ commitment to providing stimulating art experiences that enrich the arts community and the lives of individuals engaging with the work of artists. It also reaffirms the cruise line’s commitment to supporting and celebrating art and artists, while sharing immersive cultural opportunities with its valued guests and trade partners.
Located adjacent to Sydney’s Domain and Royal Botanic Garden, the Art Gallery of New South Wales is one of Australia’s flagship art museums and home to a fascinating permanent art collection, as well as an inspiring annual programme of exhibitions and events presenting the work of local and international artists.
As the official membership program of the Art Gallery of NSW, the Art Gallery Society supports the Art Gallery to raise funds for the acquisition of artworks for its collection, making them accessible to those visiting the Art Gallery and its exhibitions. It also engages its community of art lovers with a wide range of benefits and activities to enhance their experience of art and culture.
Robert Heather, Executive Director, Art Gallery Society of New South Wales said:
“We’re delighted that Regent Seven Seas Cruises has partnered with us to extend the benefits on offer to the Art Gallery Society’s loyal and engaged members – specifically to support member events at the Art Gallery. This partnership with Regent Seven Seas Cruises is a wonderful opportunity for the Regent Seven Seas community to connect with Art Gallery Society members, especially at this exciting time with the Art Gallery’s largest expansion, the Sydney Modern Project, due to open later this year, doubling the space for art. Art Gallery Society members have a genuine passion for art, an interest which will no doubt resonate with the destination-rich travel and cultural experiences available on Regent voyages.”
Steve Odell, Senior Vice President and Managing Director, Asia Pacific, Regent Seven Seas Cruises said:
“Regent Seven Seas Cruises is renowned for delighting our guests with unrivalled experiences, including in the areas of art, music, dance, theatre and cultural enrichment, both on board The World’s Most Luxurious Fleet™ and in more than 450 enthralling ports around the globe. From meticulously curated onboard art collections and immersive lectures from art historians during days at sea, to exploring galleries the world over on shore, Regent guests continue to demonstrate their appreciation of a wide range of artistic pursuits, and we look forward to sharing the Regent Experience with members of the Art Gallery Society of NSW.”
“On board all of Regent’s spacious, stylish ships, guests are spoilt by a veritable treasure trove of artistic delights, making each ship a floating gallery. Original works from the likes of Picasso and Chagall, thought-provoking pieces from new and upcoming artists and breathtaking installations, such as Seven Seas Explorer’s® Tibetan prayer wheel can be found throughout the fleet,” Odell added.
Regent invested AU$7 million into its breathtaking 300-piece art collection for the cruise line’s most recent vessel – Seven Seas Splendor™, which debuted in February 2020. The collection was sourced from artists and galleries around the world and took nearly two years to curate and commission. Highlights include iconic pieces by Pablo Picasso, and Joan Miró’s works on display in Prime 7 restaurant.
