Lesser-known Greek islands and towns in Greece as well as iconic gems of the Adriatic feature will be visited by the world’s largest sailing ship, Golden Horizon.
In 2023 as part of a new back-to-back cruise package released by Australian small ship cruising specialist, Cruise Traveller, in conjunction with Tradewind Voyages, which operates the majestic tall ship is offering earlybird savings of up to A$1714 per couple for bookings made for the ‘Grand Grecian Getaway’ package before December 31, 2022, with fares for Australians now also including all-day beverages, Wi-Fi and laundry services.
The 15-night., back-to-back package is one of seven combination voyages of up to 21 nights that Cruise Traveller is offering aboard the five-masted Golden Horizon in 2023, enabling Australians to make the most of their time in Europe.
The summer ‘Grand Grecian Getaway’ package starts on August 29, 2023, with a night at a hotel in Athens, followed by 14 nights aboard the 272-guest Golden Horizon as it sails to 11 ports across Greece and her islands and also Turkey. Many of the destinations are less-visited ports only smaller vessels like Golden Horizon can access. These include the Greek medieval fortress town of Monemvasia, the blue seas and authentic tavernas of Argostoli, the white-washed villages of Milos and Nafplion – Greece’s former capital.
Other destinations on the combo cruise include Katakolon – gateway to Olympia, where the first Ancient Olympic Games were held in 776 BC – the castle-crowned town of Bodrum in Turkey and a host of sunny Greek islands such as, Rhodes, Patmos, Paros and the famous, sun-drenched isles of Mykonos and Santorini.
The 15-night ‘Grand Grecian Getaway’ package is available from A$9795 per person, twin-share, in an oceanview cabin – a saving of A$391 if booked by December 31, 2022. In a deluxe balcony stateroom midships, fares are from $18,745 per person, twin-share – a saving of A$857. Fares include a night, pre-cruise in Athens, onboard gratuities and the new inclusions for Australians of free onboard Wi-Fi, laundry (excluding dry cleaning) and an all-day beverage package.
Designed to recapture the golden era of sailing ships, the 162m-long Golden Horizon boasts golden masts that soar 64m above the sea and support 6300 square metres of billowing sails. The majestic square-rigger also flaunts a gourmet cuisine restaurant, three pools, gym, library, spa sanctuary, four bars and a marina platform.
While new and luxurious, the graceful ship retains the charm, adventure and romance of an historic ship with an onboard ambience that is intimate, relaxed and casually elegant. Committed to sustainability, the ship is powered solely by nature whenever possible, providing an authentic sailing experience.
