Hilton Brisbane team members cooked meals, cleaned public gardens, donated pre-loved corporate wear and toiletries, and supported their long-term charity partners in a moving week of community service, as part of Hilton Effect Week, from 6 to 10 December.
Coming into the festive season, the week united Hilton Brisbane team members in their passion for hospitality and service by participating in hands-on volunteer events in their local community. The hotel prepared a week full of important community projects that saw team members take part in a variety of activities:
Cooked and packaged Christmas meals with written messages of love and hope to donate to Oz Harvest
Donated pre-loved corporate wear and much-needed toiletries to Suited to Success
Wrote motivational Christmas messages to children on the Smith Family Learning for Life Program.
Cleaned up the City Botanical Gardens and riverbank
The Brisbane hotel was also recently selected to receive a USD1,000 Hilton Effect Grant, which has been used towards doubling the Christmas themed meals (from the planned 250 to a total of 500), packed with messages of love, encouragement and support before freezing them for collection by Oz Harvest so that their clients can enjoy a festive meal this Christmas.
“Hilton Effect Week is a wonderful opportunity for team members to make a positive impact within our local Brisbane communities, and supports Hilton’s corporate responsibility programme, Travel with Purpose” said Chris Partridge, area general manager, south-east Queensland.
Hilton Brisbane has participated in the annual Hilton Effect Week since 2011. In that time team members have contributed 5,177 volunteer hours; positively impacting local communities.
Adrienne Putelli, Hilton Brisbane’s Travel with Purpose Champion, said “I am proud of our teams’ collective effort to make a positive difference in the community, both environmentally, and from a social justice viewpoint. The outcomes are both tangible and heart-warming”.
2021 Hilton Effect Week comes less than two months after Hilton Brisbane Team Members came together with Brisbane City Council to leave a living legacy by planting 300 trees in local parkland. This initiative honoured a commitment the hotel made in early 2019, to make a positive difference in the environment by planting 100 trees every year, on the occasion of Hilton’s 100th anniversary.
The iconic Brisbane hotel currently sits in the Hall for Fame for Outstanding Community Service and Achievement as part of the Queensland Hotel Association Awards for Excellence as a result of winning the award on three consecutive occasions in 2016, 2017 and 2018. Earlier this year and for the fourth consecutive year Hilton Brisbane was also recognised for its Environmental & Energy Efficiency Practice at the same awards, having won the award in 2017 and 2018, and achieving finalist placings in 2019 and 2021. These awards highlight Hilton Brisbane’s commitment to halve its environmental footprint and double its social impact as part of Hilton’s Travel with Purpose 2030 goals.
