With e-Sports’ rapid development as an attractive contemporary tech-based entertainment form, Melco Resorts & Entertainment brought the emerging sporting experience to Macau as co-organizer of 2021 World University Cyber League (2021 WUCL) Finals. For the first time, under a “one game, two places” model, the 2021 WUCL Finals were held between December 4-5 at Novotown in Hengqin and Studio City in Macau.
The initiative demonstrated Melco’s commitment to local economic diversification and the strengthening of Macau’s position as a world-class tourism destination. Now in its third year, WUCL is the most influential and comprehensive college and university level e-Sports event of its kind.
For the WUCL Finals, contestants from 32 colleges and universities across the country gathered offline at the event to compete in popular games such as League of Legends, Honor of Kings and Game for Peace. The event was broadcast nationally on Tencent platforms.
Mr. Clarence Chung, Board Director of Melco Resorts & Entertainment, said, “Congratulations on the success of the event. We extend our best wishes to the winning teams. This was the first time the tournament took place under a “one game, two places” model. The event demonstrated a successful collaboration between Zhuhai and Macau. We are confident that it laid strong foundations for the eSports industry’s development in Zhuhai and Macau. As a long-term supporter of local economic diversification, Melco was thrilled to bring this vibrant and energetic eSports event to Macau. Melco will continue to contribute to local economic diversification.”
