Airport Developments Limited, a government owned entity who manage the Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe, has announced that the airport have been officially accredited on the Airport Health Accreditation (AHA) program for the COVID-19 pandemic. The accreditation is organised by the Airport Council International (ACI), a global trade representative of the world’s airport authorities.

Established in 1991, ACI represents airports’ interests with governments and international organisations, develops standards, policies and recommended practices for airports, and it provides information and training opportunities to raise the standards around the world. It aims to provide the public a safe, secure, efficient and an environmentally responsible air transport system for high standard of care and education.

This award ensures that Lilongwe’s airport is capable in demonstrating to passengers, staff, regulators, and government that they are prioritising health and safety in a measurable, established manner.  The accrediation also allows the airport to validate its own measures throughout the facilities and processes.

Being included in the list of international airports to receive this accreditation also gives travellers confidence in using Lilongwe as their outbound and/or inbound airport.

The accreditation will promote the recognition of professional excellence in maintaining safe hygienic facilities and promote best practices and efforts across the industry. Furthermore, will ensures harmonization between ICAO global guidance and industry implementation.

As the world adapts to travelling during the pandemic, Malawi is exceeding expectations in presenting a safe country to visit and has all the qualities that visitors will be looking for when planning a safe and covid-secure holiday. The country was also recently awarded the Safe Travels Stamp by the World Travel & Tourism Council and this latest accolade will help to put Malawi at the top of many bucket lists for a post-lockdown destination.
