Wilpena Pound Resort in the heart of the spectacular Flinders Ranges has reopened its campground in line with this week’s easing of travel restrictions within South Australia put in place to stem the spread of the Coronavirus.
The Flinders Ranges is an ideal destination for road trips and is expected to be popular with South Australians looking for new horizons and adventures. Wilpena Pound’s incredible natural attractions offer rewarding outdoor activities like hiking, camping with family and friends, and four-wheel driving.
Wilpena Pound Campground management has put in place several measures to ensure the health and safety of its guests and staff:
- Campsite Allocation: powered campsites will be allocated to allow a vacant site between each booked site. Guests booking powered sites can take a look at the campground map and choose a preferred site before booking online. Unpowered campsites will remain freely allocated, with the minimum four metres required between each campsite boundary
- Guest Numbers: campsite bookings will include a maximum of four campers per Larger families or groups will need to book extra sites
- Bookings: are recommended to be made online at wilpenapound.com.au in advance of arrival.
- Communal Areas: Guests can pre-book the use of communal areas including barbecue areas on arrival to ensure the required social distancing ratio of one person per four square metres can be met. Guests need to thoroughly clean surfaces and remove rubbish after
- Amenities Areas: Hygiene practices are essential in bathrooms, and shower blocks should be used by one ‘household unit’ (maximum four persons), or individuals working to the one person per four square metre Guests need to thoroughly clean surfaces after use and are encouraged to wear flip-flops or thongs at all times.
- Guest Health Declaration: All guests are required to lodge a Health Declaration on arrival at the campground. The Health Declaration form is available for download and is ideally completed prior to arrival, to be presented on check-in.
Wilpena Pound Resort Director Darren Godwell said he was pleased to be safely reopening the campground to welcome back visitors from around South Australia.
“We hope we will see people setting off on road trips for some fresh air and wide-open spaces, to return to Wilpena Pound or discover it for the first time,” Mr Godwell said.
“While the hotel, restaurant and glamping at Ikara Safari Camp remain closed for now, the new IGA Xpress general store and onsite petrol station are open for our guests and travellers in the region.”
Wilpena Pound Resort is located around 430km north of Adelaide in the Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park. Wilpena Pound is a spectacular natural amphitheatre spanning 17km in length and 7km in width, shaped by the weathering and uplifting of land over time and holding important cultural significance for the Indigenous Adnyamathanha people. The resort comprises a 52-room hotel, Ikara Safari Camp with 15 tented pavilions and a large campground with state-of-the-art facilities.
