The Asia Petrochemical Industry Conference (APIC) 2019 was held at the Taipei Marriott Hotel during May 16–17, attracting 1,048 international participants and 147 domestic participants. This conference is a large-scale international petroleum chemistry symposium held annually in Asia, with member states such as Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and India in attendance, just to name a few.

The conference theme for APIC 2019 was Smart Petrochemical Processes—Sustainable Solutions Enabling a Better World. Focusing not only on smart production processes, environmental issues involved in the petrochemical industry were also covered. This conference presented new ideas to the petrochemical industry in Asia and highlighted sustainable industry development. It was an opportunity to continue expansion of international trade and exchange in Taiwan, multiply Taiwan’s economic benefits by holding international conferences in Taiwan, show development results and applications to the international community, and enhance the understanding that petrochemical products can also be sustainable and environmentally friendly green energy, contributing to a better and sustainable world.

At the opening ceremony on May 17, former Minister of Economic Affairs, Dr. Yen-Shiang Shih, was invited to deliver a keynote speech on working together towards a sustainable and responsible petrochemical industry future. Far Eastern Group Chairman Douglas Tong Hsu and senior executives and representatives of leading petrochemical industry consulting companies also shared their perspectives of the situation and development of the petrochemical industry in Asia.
