Spread the love

The next chapter of VicX’s Cross Paths campaign arrives on Wednesday 25 November, when No Flowers Mahjong Club, DOPA Donburi and Two Good Co come together for a one-night mahjong supper club at The Landing at Victoria Cross. Set to a vinyl soundtrack from DJ BC and a silent looping screening of Wong Kar-wai’s In the Mood for Love, the evening promises tiles and turntables, inviting locals and visitors to sit down with new faces and learn a game built on connection.

The supper club will run across two sittings, with 12 mahjong tables set up on Level 2 of The Landing, the purpose-led community hub and event space operated by social enterprise Two Good Co. The first sitting is at 5:30pm which starts with dinner, followed by mahjong until 7pm. The second sitting starts at 7pm with dinner, followed by mahjong from 7:30pm to 9pm. No Flowers Mahjong Club will be on hand to guide first-timers and seasoned players alike.

Tickets are $18 and include a drink on arrival, a DOPA donburi bowl and dessert from Two Good Co. When booking, guests pre-select one of four DOPA dishes: Wagyu beef don, chicken don, grilled king salmon soba salad, or an eggplant soba salad that can be made vegan. For those who want to share, DOPA’s karaage and agedashi tofu will be available to order on the night, and Two Good Co. will run the bar throughout the evening for further drink purchases.

Soundtracking the night is DJ BC, spinning a vast personal vinyl collection that includes gems dug from Red Point Records Warehouse, a cult, shoes-off record warehouse on the sixth floor of a Singapore factory building, run by carpenter-turned-collector Ong Chai Koon. Home to tens of thousands of records, from 1950’s Chinese dives and 80’s Canto-pop to rare Singapore pop pressings, jazz, funk and soul, Red Point has become a pilgrimage spot for crate-diggers across Asia and beyond. Expect a set to match the screening: smokey, nostalgic and entirely analogue.

“Keep it tactile” says DJ BC. “Mahjong is all about touch. The clack and feel of the tiles are a way of connecting that can’t happen digitally. Vinyl does the same for music, because people can actually watch the sound being handled. Expect Bonobo, Nujabes, Aiir, Hiroshi, Yoshimura and plenty of jazz kissa vibes.”

Monique de Cseuz, Director of Retail and Place at Lendlease said “Cross Paths is about bringing people together in unexpected ways, and a mahjong supper club does exactly that. It’s a chance for locals and visitors to share a table, learn something new and discover more of what VicX has to offer.”

Future events will be announced in the coming months, celebrating retailers and brands crossing paths to create something new for locals, workers and visitors alike.

All proceeds from the mahjong supper club will be reinvested into Two Good Co., which continues to support, empower and employ women with lived experiences of homelessness, domestic violence and complex trauma.

Tickets are $18 per person and include a drink on arrival, dinner, dessert and mahjong. Tickets are available here, with dish choice and dietary requirements captured at checkout.
