The Sarawak Government has reaffirmed its continued support for the business events industry and its growing role in advancing the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030), as Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak) marks its 20th anniversary yesterday.
Premier of Sarawak, The Right Honourable Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Datuk Abang Haji Openg, said business events have an increasingly important role in bringing knowledge, talent, technology, investment and international partnerships into Sarawak while supporting the state’s development priorities.
The Premier said international and national conferences, conventions, exhibitions and corporate events should align with Sarawak’s development priorities and deliver legacy value.
“For many years, destinations have competed primarily for visitors, and that competition will continue. However, in the years ahead, destinations will increasingly compete for knowledge, talent, ideas, technology, investment and networks. Sarawak must be ready to compete in this changing environment,” said the Premier.
“Business events have a much bigger role to play in Sarawak’s development. They allow us to bring international expertise, technology, investment and partnerships into Sarawak while creating opportunities for our people and institutions to connect with global communities. As we implement PCDS 2030, the events we host should reflect and support the sectors and capabilities we are seeking to build. An event may last only a few days, but the knowledge exchanged, partnerships formed and opportunities created can generate value for Sarawak for many years.”
