Korean Air has received final approval from the Korea Fair Trade Commission (KFTC) on its mileage integration plan with Asiana Airlines.
Since submitting the proposed integration framework on June 12, 2025, Korean Air has completed a 15-month review with the KFTC to finalize a structure that protects and maximizes consumer benefits.
Under the approved plan, all newly accrued miles will be credited directly to Korean Air’s SKYPASS program upon the launch of the integrated airline. Existing Asiana Airlines miles will be transferred to Korean Air but maintained as a separate mileage balance within the member’s account for 10 years. Customers may choose to keep these miles separate or convert them into SKYPASS miles at any time. Passengers who choose to maintain their separate Asiana balance can continue to redeem it for award tickets and seat upgrades based on the existing Asiana Airlines redemption chart.
For elite members, Asiana Airlines status will be automatically matched to the corresponding Korean Air elite tier, maintaining its current validity period. To support this transition, Korean Air will introduce a new “Morning Calm Select” tier, which includes SkyTeam Elite Plus benefits. This new tier will operate alongside the existing Million Miler, Morning Calm Premium, and Morning Calm tiers.
The mileage conversion ratio operates on a dual structure. Flight-accrued miles will be converted at a 1:1 ratio, reflecting the similar accrual standards of both airlines. Partner-accrued miles will be converted at a 1:0.82 ratio, reflecting the financial cost of accumulation.
Following consultations with the KFTC, Korean Air will maintain award seat availability at or above pre-integration levels to expand redemption opportunities. On key long-haul routes – including the Americas, Europe, and Oceania – the airline will provide award seats at or above the highest levels recorded over the past 10 years. Korean Air will also manage total redemption capacity so that annual mileage usage exceeds the combined pre-integration volume of both carriers by 20% or more. Additionally, allowing customers to redeem Asiana miles for Korean Air flights will expand available schedules by combining Asiana’s network, overlapping routes, and Korean Air-exclusive destinations.
