EXPEDITION CRUISING – WHAT MAKES IT SO SPECIAL?
Expedition cruising is travel with a difference. It combines adventure, exploration and education, taking you to remote and often hard-to-reach destinations where the experience is all about discovery.
Unlike traditional cruising, where the ship can be the destination, expedition cruising puts the destination firmly at centre stage. Itineraries are flexible and adaptive, responding to local conditions such as weather, sea ice and daylight hours – meaning no two journeys are ever quite the same.
Expedition ships are generally smaller, allowing them to reach places larger ships simply cannot – from shallow waters and narrow fjords to remote islands and fragile ecosystems.
And there is an incredible depth of knowledge on board. Shore excursions and onboard programs are often led by experts including marine biologists, glaciologists, naturalists, historians and cultural specialists, giving travellers a much deeper understanding of the environment, wildlife and communities they encounter.
