Inside Travel, the cultural adventure tour operator behind InsideJapan and InsideAsia, has announced a new campaign spotlighting Japan as the world’s leading destination for autumn travel.
The “Only in Japan. Only in Autumn.” campaign showcases the country’s unique appeal during the months of October to December.
Inside Travel’s Australia Managing Director Tim Oakes said that autumn in Japan is one of the best times of year to visit, offering world-class scenery that rivals long-haul alternatives.
“Japan in autumn is simply extraordinary. While many Australians associate autumn travel with Canada or New England, Japan combines incredible seasonal colour with centuries-old temples, hot spring towns, mountain landscapes and cultural experiences you can’t find anywhere else,” Oakes said.

“It’s one of the most beautiful and immersive times of year to visit. Maple trees turn deep crimson (also known as Kōyō 紅葉), Tokyo’s ginkgo avenues glow yellow in the evening light and the mountain trails are alive with colour.
“From Kyoto’s temple gardens to the alpine scenery of Kamikochi and the vibrant forests of Tohoku, Japan’s autumn colours stretch across the country for months, making them easier to experience than the famously brief cherry blossom season.”
Running until 30 September, the “Only in Japan. Only in Autumn.” campaign shines a light on Japan’s seasonal beauty alongside exclusive cultural experiences.
When booking a tailor-made holiday, travellers receive a complimentary experience valued at up to AUD$750 and the Operator is also offering AUD$2,000 off a 2026 small group tour place when booking as a two.
Bonus experience options include meeting a geisha in Kyoto or Kanazawa, joining a local food tour, spending time with an Insider guide or exploring Kyoto’s historic Gion district.
“The campaign also highlights lesser-visited regions such as Tohoku, reached by only a small fraction of international visitors, where travellers can hike through the colourful Oirase Gorge, cycle through forests ablaze with autumn foliage, and soak in traditional hot spring towns away from the crowds,” Oakes said.
“Autumn is about much more than the leaves. It’s about enjoying seasonal food and experiencing Japan in a way that feels incredibly authentic. Our trips offer something deeper and different for those who want to experience a truly immersive cultural adventure.”
