Tripadvisor has put traveller safety firmly on the itinerary. The global travel platform has signed a new deal with Riskline to improve the safety alerts and destination advice shown to its users.

The partnership will give Tripadvisor access to live risk updates before a trip and while travellers are away. The alerts can cover conflict, unrest, crime, severe weather, natural hazards, health threats and transport problems. Sunscreen and a good pair of shoes still matter, of course. Yet fast, clear advice now belongs on the packing list too.

Riskline tracks events around the clock in more than 220 countries and territories and over 260 cities. Its team blends expert analysis, artificial intelligence and trusted public sources. The aim is simple: turn a flood of global news into useful advice that people can grasp and act on.

For Tripadvisor, the deal adds a stronger safety layer to a platform used to research hotels, restaurants, attractions and whole destinations. Users should not have to chase five websites after seeing a worrying headline. The new link is designed to bring key risk details closer to the moment when plans are made.

That timing is important. A January 2026 poll by the Global Business Travel Association surveyed 571 travel professionals in 40 countries. It found that 56 per cent of travel buyers listed employee safety as a major concern. Cost and border rules ranked higher, but safety was no side issue. It now shapes travel policy, duty of care and the wider customer experience.

The move also reflects the way people travel today. Many want deeper, more personal trips. They may head beyond the usual tourist trail or book at short notice. Adventure is welcome. Avoidable chaos is not. An early warning about unrest, floods, fire, disease or closed roads can save time, money and a great deal of grief.

Suzanne Sangiovese, CEO at Riskline, said:

“We are delighted to partner with Tripadvisor and to boost their platform and operations by providing our travel safety information. From our perspective, it’s very exciting to expand our reach within the leisure travel industry and to work on a shared mission to enable people to travel with confidence. We believe this partnership will be beneficial to both organizations, but most importantly, it will help people to make better-informed travel decisions.”

Becky Foley, VP of Trust + Safety at Tripadvisor, said:

“Partnering with Riskline strengthens our ability to support travelers at every stage of their journey. Access to real-time, reliable risk intelligence allows us to proactively inform and empower our community with the insights they need to travel confidently. This collaboration is a meaningful step forward in our commitment to safety, transparency, and a better overall travel experience.”

The business case is clear. Trust is one of travel’s most valuable assets. A platform that helps people see and judge risk can build both confidence and loyalty. Better alerts can also help travel advisers, suppliers and corporate buyers respond when events move quickly.

Technology, however, should support official advice rather than replace it. Australians should still check Smartraveller before they book and while overseas, including for any country they transit. The Australian Government’s advice covers safety, health, local laws and changing travel conditions across 179 destinations.

The Riskline partnership will not remove all doubt from travel. Nothing short of a crystal ball and very polite weather could do that. It can, however, make risk easier to spot and manage.

That is a sound upgrade. Disruption can now race around the world faster than a boarding queue. Timely and credible advice is no longer a pleasant extra. It is becoming part of the journey.
