In the wake of Venezuela’s devastating earthquake, the Americas have united in an extraordinary display of continental solidarity. Organisations and partners from the United States, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador and Panama coordinated their efforts, responding rapidly in the days following the disaster to deliver essential aid to the hardest-hit communities.
During the first week of operation LATAM Cargo has operated six freighter flights and four passenger flights carrying humanitarian cargo. Together, these operations have transported more than 300 tonnes of essential supplies (equivalent to transporting 52,000 water bottles) in a race against time to deliver urgent humanitarian aid.
The success of the operation reflects the strength of a broad humanitarian and logistics network. Organisations such as GEM, TAAP, Fundana, UNHCR, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, Cámara de Comercio Venezolana Ecuatoriana and Peru Pendiente, among others, entrusted the Solidarity Plane Program to transport donated supplies, while more than four logistics operators, including KOPE and Kuehne+Nagel, supported customs clearance and logistics.
The aid includes critical medical supplies, power generators and field hospital modules. These supplies have now arrived in Venezuela and are available to the humanitarian organisations providing direct assistance.
