Theme parks are emerging as a major travel motivator for Thai travelers, with booking data from Traveloka showing strong year-on-year growth across some of Asia’s most popular attractions. The trend reflects a broader shift toward experience-led, personalized travel, where activities and attractions increasingly influence destination choices rather than simply complementing them.

According to Traveloka booking data, demand among Thai travelers has risen significantly for several leading theme parks across the region. The fastest-growing attractions include:

  • Universal Studios Singapore — recorded 219% year-on-year growth, reflecting its appeal as a convenient, high-value short-haul destination that combines entertainment, dining, and a full-day experience
  • Hong Kong Disneyland — saw 142% year-on-year growth, driven by renewed appetite for short-haul leisure travel and the park’s ongoing investment in new experiences and seasonal programming
  • Everland Theme Park, South Korea — recorded over 53% year-on-year growth, supported by continued enthusiasm for Korean culture, entertainment, and lifestyle experiences among Thai travelers
  • Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea, Japan — recorded 20% year-on-year growth, with Tokyo DisneySea in particular drawing repeat visitors for its unique attractions and seasonal events unavailable elsewhere in the world

Thai Travelers are Willing to Spend on Experiences

Beyond growing demand, Thai travelers are also spending significantly more on theme park experiences. Traveloka recorded a nearly double year-on-year increase for amusement park bookings between January and May 2026 compared with the same period last year.

“Thai travelers today are increasingly planning trips around experiences that create lasting memories and emotional connections,” said Thipaporn Duangmak, Country Manager at Traveloka. “The strong growth we’re seeing across major theme parks in Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, and South Korea suggests that attractions are no longer just part of the itinerary—they are increasingly becoming the primary reason people travel.”

Experience-Led Travel Takes Center Stage

As travelers become more selective about how they spend their time and travel budgets, experiences are playing a greater role in destination planning. Rather than focusing solely on traditional sightseeing, many travelers are seeking activities that offer memorable and shareable moments, particularly when traveling with family, partners, or friends.

Theme parks have evolved beyond being family-focused attractions. Today, they appeal to a broader audience, including young adults, couples, and repeat travelers who are drawn by immersive environments, seasonal attractions, and themed experiences inspired by intellectual property in movies, animation, gaming, and popular culture.

Increasingly, travelers are also integrating attractions into broader itineraries that combine accommodation, flights, dining, shopping, and local experiences, reflecting a growing preference for seamless trip planning and personalized travel experiences.

Asia Emerges as a Playground Powerhouse

The growing popularity of theme park travel among Thai travelers reflects a broader trend across Asia-Pacific, where immersive attractions continue to play an increasingly important role in tourism. According to Asia-Pacific Amusement Park Market Analysis by Mordor Intelligence, the amusement park industry will be worth USD 98.98 billion by 2031, reflecting a 6.34% CAGR from 2026 to 2031, which signals a steady scale-up in spending and investment across the region.

This rise of theme park travel reflects a broader shift in how Thai travelers plan their journeys. As a result, attractions are increasingly shaping where people choose to holiday and how they plan their journeys. With strong growth across major attractions in Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, and South Korea, Traveloka’s booking data indicates that experience-led travel will continue to play an important role in influencing outbound travel decisions for Thai travelers moving forward.

Thai travelers’ rise to the top of Traveloka’s global spending chart is more than a data point — it reflects a generation of travelers who are building their journeys around moments worth travelling for. From a night at DisneySea to a summer at Everland, every step of that experience-led journey can be planned and booked with Traveloka.
