Australians shivering through another winter now have an excellent excuse to stop staring longingly at old holiday photos and start packing.

Singapore Airlines has launched its latest “Time to Travel” promotion, dangling a tempting menu of cut-price fares across Asia just as cabin fever starts setting in across much of the country.

And if history tells us anything, it’s this: Australians may complain endlessly about the cost of living, but put a cheap airfare to Phuket in front of them and suddenly everyone’s “doing it tough” from a beachfront bar.

The sale, running until 1 July, offers return Economy Class fares from seven Australian gateways to a host of popular Asian destinations, including Singapore, Bangkok, Phuket, Ho Chi Minh City, Jakarta, Manila, Kuala Lumpur, Hyderabad and Bengaluru.

For northern Australians, Darwin once again emerges as the bargain hunter’s paradise.

Travellers can fly return from Darwin to Singapore from just AUD688, while Perth passengers can head to Singapore, Phuket or Jakarta from AUD739 return.

Brisbane travellers can escape winter for Phuket from AUD898 or Singapore from AUD969, while Sydneysiders can swap Bondi’s chilly mornings for Bangkok’s steamy street markets from AUD919 return.

Melbourne travellers can fly to Manila from AUD919, while Adelaide flyers can reach Phuket from AUD898.

Not surprisingly, the timing of the promotion is no accident.

With international travel continuing to rebound strongly and Australians increasingly favouring shorter-haul holidays closer to home, Southeast Asia remains the sweet spot for value-conscious travellers seeking maximum bang for their travel buck.

Industry analysts say demand for Asia has remained remarkably resilient despite ongoing household cost pressures, driven largely by strong airline competition and the enduring appeal of destinations offering sunshine, affordability and, importantly for many Australians, excellent food.

Singapore Airlines, long regarded as one of the world’s premium carriers, continues to capitalise on that appetite.

The carrier’s extensive network and seamless connections through Singapore have made it a preferred choice for Australians travelling throughout Asia and, increasingly, into India.

Fares to Hyderabad and Bengaluru feature strongly throughout the sale, reflecting growing business, education and visiting-friends-and-relatives traffic between Australia and the Indian subcontinent.

For those looking beyond Asia, Singapore Airlines is also offering selected return fares from Darwin and Perth to Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Seattle for AUD1,699 and AUD1,800, respectively.

As every seasoned traveller knows, airline sales come with two guarantees.

First, the best fares disappear quickly.

Second, there will always be someone at the airport claiming they “almost booked it”.

Travellers hoping to escape Australia’s winter blues would be wise not to linger too long.

After all, sunshine waits for no one.

The “Time to Travel” promotion is available for booking until 1 July 2026 for travel between 13 July and 13 September 2026 and again from 5 October to 18 November 2026.

Additional departures are available from Canberra, Hobart, Launceston, Gold Coast, Mackay, Townsville and Rockhampton via Singapore Airlines’ Virgin Australia partner network.
