Both complex and simple issues are generally best resolved and explained by rapier-sharp, focused thinking.

Remember, business is simple, but never easy.

When explanations are sought and understanding is valued, the rules of simplicity should be applied. Basic probability theory will generally work in one’s favour.

Medical practitioners undertaking diagnoses are encouraged to contemplate, “when hearing hoof beats, think horses, not zebras”.

Occam’s Razor, which was created by 14th-century friar William of Ockham, is a logical guideline rather than a law.

It is less well suited to the complex world of biology, in which DNA, the double helix, and Charles Darwin’s concept of natural selection are more difficult to comprehend and apply.

Be encouraged, luminaries Albert Einstein and Isaac Newton developed and promoted similar rules.

Do recall,
Rules are for guidance,
                    not obedience.

In the prevailing vexed global economy, simple logic has virtues.
