Riverside Luxury Cruises has appointed Stewart Williams as Country Manager, Australia & New Zealand, marking a significant step in the brand’s expansion into the ANZ market. The appointment reflects Riverside’s international growth trajectory, positioning Australia and New Zealand as key growth regions supported by strong, experienced leadership on the ground.
Williams is one of the most recognised and respected figures in the Australian river cruise sector, bringing more than three decades of industry experience and a deep understanding of the premium travel landscape. Most notably, he served as Managing Director of Avalon Waterways Australia under the Globus umbrella, where he was instrumental in introducing and positioning the brand within the Australian market. Over a 28-year tenure, he successfully built distribution networks, strengthened trade relationships and helped drive the rapid growth of river cruising as a compelling alternative to traditional ocean cruising.
Throughout his career, Williams has been known for his strategic approach to distribution, his strong industry partnerships and his ability to align premium international products with the expectations of Australian and New Zealand travellers. His appointment signals Riverside’s intention to grow thoughtfully and sustainably, focusing on long-term brand equity and carefully curated market positioning.
“The Australian and New Zealand market is sophisticated and well-travelled, and it is ready for a river cruise experience at this level,” said Williams. “Riverside sets a new benchmark in terms of space, service and cultural immersion. When I saw the product, I immediately recognised its potential here. This is an opportunity to introduce something genuinely elevated and position it strategically for long-term growth in the region.”

Designed for discerning travellers seeking a more refined way to experience Europe, Riverside Luxury Cruises delivers an all-suite, hotel-style river cruise experience across six of Europe’s most iconic rivers. Operating through 12 countries on the Danube, Rhine, Rhône, Main, Moselle and Saône, the brand combines spacious accommodation, Michelin-level cuisine and immersive cultural access, with itineraries ranging from short three-day sailings to extended 21-day journeys.
Riverside’s modern fleet features generously proportioned suites ranging from 18 square metres to 82 square metres, alongside one of the highest staff-to-guest ratios on Europe’s rivers, with one crew member for every two guests. Each suite includes dedicated butler service, while immersive shore experiences may include exclusive after-hours access to cultural landmarks such as Belvedere Palace and private viewings of The Kiss.
The fleet includes Riverside Mozart, the largest and most luxurious ship on the Danube, as well as sister ships Riverside Ravel and Riverside Debussy, sailing some of Europe’s most storied waterways.

Charlotte Hewitt-Davies, Managing Director of Riverside Luxury Cruises commented: “Stewart’s appointment marks a pivotal moment for Riverside in Australia and New Zealand. His deep market knowledge and longstanding trade relationships position us perfectly to introduce a new benchmark in ultra-luxury river cruising and to redefine what travellers expect from the category.”
The announcement also marks the appointment of The MINT Partners as Riverside Luxury Cruises’ Australian PR agency, reflecting the brand’s commitment to building strong momentum in the market. The agency will be responsible for establishing Riverside’s ultra-luxury positioning locally, amplifying its trade and consumer profile, and supporting strategic growth across the region.
