Spread the love

The launch of five new venues within Southbank’s new Hannah St Hotel marks a major milestone for The Mulberry Group. In entering a creative partnership with the hotel, The Mulberry Group founder Nathan Toleman is leading the group through its largest project to date and their first-ever hotel venture.

Positioned at the heart of The Queensbridge Building, Hannah St Hotel and its food and beverage offering are set to revitalise the neighbourhood. Each Flack Studio–designed venue moves guests seamlessly from early‑morning coffee to late‑evening nightcaps, in what becomes an all‑day expression of Melbourne’s standing as Australia’s Cultural Capital.

And, with menus crafted by Executive Chef Andrew Beddoes (J. Sheekey, Soho House, Fenix, Tartine, Enoteca Boccaccio), who has honed his craft in Michelin Star kitchens, there are even more reasons to visit and return.

Bar Hannah

Inspired by the modernist bars of Milan, Bar Hannah reimagines the classic hotel lobby bar as a vibrant neighbourhood hub for guests and locals alike. Spanning the Hannah St Hotel lobby, the all-day venue is the place for guests to enjoy signature cocktails and refined snacks.

Anchored by a tiled central pillar surrounded by mustard and gold upholstered banquettes, Bar Hannah is layered and richly textured. Ribbed stainless steel, brass and walnut features harmonise with custom-made light fittings and rugs designed by Flack Studio, while vintage brass cranes line the granite-topped bar. Its prime lobby location offers a front row view of the hotel’s impressive art collection, including a sculptural installation – Mirror Sheila from renowned Australian artist, Justene Williams.

Bar Hannah offers a space for guests to move between their moods, blending European culinary and cultural influences with a creative Melbourne sensibility. Here, signature serves include the ‘Vesper Blueprint’ – a twist on the classic Vesper Martini using local beeswax and pollen and a playful ‘Finger Lime Gimlet’, served with fresh finger lime pearls.

Music is integral to the mood, shifting from ambient daytime sounds to live DJs as the day gives way to evening. Bar Hannah is open from 7am serving Square One coffee, transitioning to bar snacks and cocktails from midday to late every day.

Carriage Lounge

Accessed through a black-steel-and-leather-clad carriage tunnel leading from Bar Hannah, Carriage Lounge is a moody retreat from the bustle of the Hannah St lobby. Part private living room, part neighbourhood hideaway, it evokes a sense of relaxed exclusivity.

Works by Australian artists Kat Shapiro and Mia Boe set the tone, complemented by high gloss paint finishes, herringbone timber floors and custom-made furniture designed by Flack Studio. Central sofas and ottomans anchor the room, while soft leather banquettes wrap the perimeter, allowing for quieter, more intimate moments.

As an extension of the space, the Carriage Lounge menu mirrors that of Bar Hannah, including oysters mignonette, lobster rolls with preserved lemon and chervil mayo and fried school prawns with a side of lime mayo are part of a short, sharp list of fan favourite bar snacks.

An excellent wine list, strong by-the-glass options and a cocktail program focussed on local spirits and ingredients round out the offering. Standouts include the ‘Southbank Eclipse’, a late-night chocolate nightcap with V.S.O.P depth, cocoa warmth, peppermint lift and a toasted marshmallow finish.

Open daily from noon until late, Carriage Lounge feels like the kind of haunt where everyone feels like a regular.

The Terrace Lounge

Melbourne’s newest indoor/outdoor rooftop bar comes to life at The Terrace Lounge. Perched on the 10th floor of the hotel, the light-filled space channels a Parisian Conservatory crossed with café garden culture. Lush, sun dappled and effortlessly chic, it’s a space to relax or work during the day, while taking in the views with a cocktail in hand. The indoor-outdoor spaces and private kitchen lend themselves beautifully to private parties and events.

Designed by Flack Studios, the space features custom furniture and wall sconces, dark green terrazzo, burnished Venetian render and American Oak accents. A striking installation, Pleasure, made of found dresses and brass eyelets – by kinetic sculpture artist Hannah Gartside – adds an artful edge and the venue’s Euro-Melbourne sensibility.

A menu of shareable dishes with a focus on seasonal ingredients includes king fish crudo, sliders and seasonal grazing boards. Cocktails compliment the al fresco setting – nostalgic, subtly tropical and Australian-first – designed for sipping at sundown. This is exemplified with the Mango & Geraldton Wax Spritz, celebrating seasonality with Victorian vermouth, Australian native Geraldton wax and mango.

Open daily from 3pm.

Hannah St Coffee

When it comes to caffeine, Melbourne doesn’t mess around. Hannah St Coffee is a street front, hole-in-the-wall coffee window serving local Square One coffee blends to go.

The venue doubles as a discrete gateway to Coupette Corner Bistro & Bar, with a menu that includes matcha, specialty coffee drinks, freshly baked pastries and a daily selection of toasties. Even better, the coffee is nostalgically priced at just $4.

Open daily from 7am to 3pm.

Coupette Corner Bistro & Bar

Occupying a striking, light-filled space in the curved bullnose on the ground floor of The Queensbridge Building, Coupette draws on Melbourne’s love of Euro-style bistros and wine bars, reinterpreted through a contemporary all-day lens.

A Flack Studio  interior compiled of textural timber, coloured mirrors, deep blue banquettes and travertine is accented by Warning, an artwork from Australian artist Mikala Dwyer. At the heart of the room, a curved bar offers kinetic views of the team in action, as cocktails are mixed and oysters shucked and an impressive list of new and old-world wines are poured.

Guests are guided from day to night by a menu that begins with crab omelette and French toast – and a lunch menu including the Coupette chopped salad and market fish from noon. Transitioning to night, the menu evolves once more with light bites and warming crowd pleasers such as steak frittes and lamb rump. Open seven days from 7am to late, Coupette is the kind of neighbourhood bistro every neighbourhood wishes it had.
