GI-OK JEON
Korean Artist
Born in Seoul, Gi-ok Jeon is currently based in Bangkok. She holds a BFA in Oriental Painting from Duksung Women’s University, Seoul, and an MFA in Chinese Painting from the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA), Beijing. Working across installation, painting, and ceramics, her practice investigates materiality and structural relationships within space. She has presented solo exhibitions at S.A.C. Gallery, Subhashok the Arts Centre, and Baan Tuek Art Center, and has participated in international exhibitions including the Shanghai International Paper Art Biennale and the Kunming Art Biennale, as well as major group exhibitions in Bangkok.
Jeon’s installation Space over Translucency brings together woven stainless steel wire structures, hanbok fabric, and bone china ceramic works suspended in space. Basket- and net-like wire forms hold translucent fabric, creating permeable boundaries that blur interior and exterior. Through weaving, suspension, and layering, structure is formed yet remains unstable and open to transformation. The bone china works, produced through slab-building and high-temperature firing, become thin and light-responsive, sustaining tension between fragility and solidity. Sensitive to light and movement, these materials resist fixed meaning, existing instead as fluctuating conditions. The installation emphasizes balance, tension, and interdependence, presenting space not as a finished form, but as an ongoing state of construction and deviation.
