Australia’s travel agents are being given a smarter way to sell the Kingdom of Tonga, along with a few old-fashioned incentives, with the launch of a new online training portal by the Tonga Tourism Authority.
Designed specifically for Australian retail agents, the new Online Training Portal delivers destination knowledge in short, practical modules that respect one simple truth of the modern trade: time is scarce, but good stories sell holidays.
The portal strips away the fluff and replaces it with actionable insights on geography, experiences, culture, and on-the-ground know-how, allowing agents to build confidence quickly and translate that knowledge directly into bookings.
To mark the launch, the Tonga Tourism Authority has added a touch of theatre with an agent-only prize draw that leans heavily into the country’s greatest strength: its sense of history and human connection.
Agents who complete modules during the promotional period will go into the draw to win one of three prize packs. Each completed module earns one entry, a refreshingly straightforward mechanic in an industry that often overcomplicates its incentives.
The competition runs from Thursday, 29 January 2026, through to the close of business on Wednesday, 12 February 2026.
Each of the three prize packs includes a Tonga Tourism Authority gift hamper and a personally signed copy of Driving Three Kings by Louise S. R. Waterhouse, a book that does far more than sit politely on a coffee table.
Waterhouse, Australia’s Honorary Consul-General for Tonga, offers a rare, deeply personal account of the Kingdom through five decades of lived experience. Remarkably, she is the only person to have driven all three modern Kings of Tonga across coronations, state visits and moments of national consequence.
Rich in anecdote and cultural detail, Driving Three Kings reveals a Tonga that exists beyond glossy brochures: a place shaped by tradition, hospitality and continuity. It was recently ranked number five in The Australian’s Best Reads for Summer ’26 no small endorsement.
There is a quiet intelligence to pairing agent education with cultural literacy. Tonga isn’t a destination sold on scale or spectacle; it is sold on trust, authenticity and understanding. This training portal and the story-led prize behind it recognise that reality.
For agents keen to sharpen their Pacific offering, the message is clear: learn the destination properly, and Tonga will do the rest.

About the Writer.
Bridget has never been built for stillness. Of Portuguese heritage, she began as a nurse, tending veterans at the Repatriation Hospital, listening to stories as colourful as the life she was yet to live. It was worthy, steady work, but wanderlust, as always, proved louder than routine.
So she traded starch for a backpack and disappeared for a year, chasing trains, sunsets and the occasional regrettable glass of wine. She wrote everything down: the dust, the laughter, the missteps, the magic. Those notebooks became a travel blog, then a habit, then a calling.
Eventually, she found Global Travel Media, or perhaps it found her.
Today, Bridget writes with heart, humour and a dash of mischief, still travelling, just now with words.
