Discover Airlines was once again successfully validated in accordance with the European EMAS Regulation (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme) for the 2024 reporting year. EMAS is a voluntary environmental management tool of the European Union and covers all requirements of the ISO 14001 standard as well as additional specifications, in particular regarding compliance with environmental obligations. It focuses primarily on transparency and continuous improvement of environmental performance. This is monitored annually as part of an audit.
Particular emphasis was placed on the company’s commitment to addressing the issue of food waste on board. In the past, several projects have focused on avoiding food waste through advance orders and using AI-supported analyses of emerging waste to draw conclusions about guest preferences. This will enable many surplus meals to be avoided in the future and guest preferences to be better taken into account. Information on these and other measures can be found in the updated environmental statement.
With its initial certification in 2024, Discover Airlines followed the environmental management standard established in the Lufthansa Group and at the same time published its first environmental statement documenting its environmental impact since it began flight operations in 2021. This environmental statement, as well as the updated statement from 2025, are available on the Discover Airlines website.
