Since its official opening on 1 March this year, Kai Tak Sports Park (KTSP) has rapidly established itself as Hong Kong’s premier destination for major sports and entertainment events. In under a year, KTSP has delivered outstanding results, hosting more than 90 international and local events, including the Hong Kong Sevens, world‑class football showcases, and concerts by global superstars such as Coldplay, SEVENTEEN, and Jay Chou. The Park has welcomed over 7 million visitors to date, ranking among the world’s top venues in ticket sales and firmly cementing its position as “Hong Kong’s Home Venue” on the global stage.

Strong Mega Event Performance with Record-High Ticket Sales and Attendance

Construction of KTSP began in 2019, and after overcoming the challenges of the pandemic, it officially opened in March 2025, rapidly becoming a globally recognised destination for major events”.

  • First three months: Music events attracted approximately 590,000 spectators
  • Within six months: Attendance at Kai Tak Stadium exceeded 1 million, with more than half being visitors, boosting local economic activity
  • Within nine months: More than 40 major sports and entertainment events were held at KTSP across over 90 event days, drawing over 7 million visitors to the precinct. Cumulative attendance at Kai Tak Stadium has exceeded 1.6 million

  • 2025 Hong Kong Sevens (Three-day tournament with over 110,000 spectators)
  • Coldplay “MUSIC of the SPHERES” concerts (Four shows with approximately 200,000 spectators)
  • Volleyball Nations League Hong Kong 2025 (Five-day event with around 40,000 spectators)
  • Hong Kong Football Festival 2025 (Two matches with 49,975 and 49,704 spectators respectively)
  • G.E.M. I AM GLORIA World Tour 2.0 in Hong Kong (Five shows with approximately 200,000 spectators)
  • SEVENTEEN WORLD TOUR [NEW_IN], Hong Kong (Two shows with over 72,600 spectators)
  • AFC Asian Cup 2027 Qualifiers – Third Round (Hong Kong, China vs India: 42,570 spectators; Hong Kong, China vs Bangladesh: 45,489 spectators; Hong Kong, China vs Singapore: 47,762 spectators)
  • The 15th National Games (Hong Kong) – Men’s Handball, Rugby Sevens, Fencing and Bowling (Mass Participation Event)
  • The 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities and the 9th National Special Olympic Games (Hong Kong) – Boccia

According to leading international industry magazine “Pollstar”, Kai Tak Stadium ranked third globally in ticket sales and fifth worldwide in total gross revenue in 2025, while placing first in both categories across Asia.

Enhancing Community Engagement and Sports Participation

Since March this year, KTSP has opened a range of indoor and outdoor sports facilities for public booking. Available activities include running, football, table tennis, badminton, basketball, beach volleyball, pickleball, futsal, handball, tennis, climbing walls, and various emerging sports. To date, the accumulated figures are:

  • Over 42,000 member bookings and facility use
  • Nearly 100,000 hours of community sports activities recorded

KTSP’s flagship community programme, the “Kai Tak Sports Initiative” continues to advance local sports culture. Since 2018, it has collaborated with more than 100 partners to deliver over 200 community projects, engaging approximately 220,000 participants. Key initiatives, including the “Kai Tak GET SET GO” Sports Carnival and the “City Heritage Run”, further promote citywide sports participation and support both physical and mental well-being.

Kai Tak Mall Thrives, Creating a New “Sports x Lifestyle” Experience

Centered on the concept of “Sportainment”, Kai Tak Mall has maintained robust performance, benefiting from KTSP’s vibrant event calendar.

  • Occupancy rate exceeding 90%
  • Nearly 80 popular dining outlets
  • Presence of International brands, including the official Liverpool FC Store and the Hong Kong Billiard Sports Academy
  • Sales growth by more than 20% compared with the initial opening period

KTSP has become Hong Kong’s newest hub for sports and entertainment. Looking ahead, KTSP will continue to introduce more international sports and cultural events, leveraging world-class facilities, professional management and effective promotion to further solidify Hong Kong’s position as “Asia’s Events Capital”.

To commemorate this significant milestone for the city, KTSP has collaborated with China Global Television Network (CGTN), the global English‑language news channel of China Central Television (CCTV), to produce a new documentary titled “Game On, Kai Tak!”, tracing KTSP’s full journey, from construction and commissioning to the hosting of world‑class events, taking audiences behind the scenes of this urban landmark and reliving its most inspiring moments.

KTSP has transformed from a former airport runway into a world‑class hub for mega events, marking the transformation of a historic city landmark into a new icon of the Greater Bay Area. Its revitalised return is both a long‑awaited reunion and a fresh encounter. “Game On, Kai Tak!” not only captures the creation of a major infrastructure project, but also reflects Hong Kong’s enduring spirit of unity, creativity, and forward momentum.

The documentary features exclusive footage, including construction milestones, venue preparations, operational insights and event highlights. Audiences will witness how the team overcomes challenges to deliver world-class sports, music and cultural events, showcasing Hong Kong’s capability in hosting mega events and uniting the city through its “Home Venue”, capturing truly inspiring moments.

Athletes share their personal experiences of Kai Tak’s transformation from a former runway to today’s “home venue”, reflecting the legacy, breakthroughs and the continuation of new generation sports dreams in Hong Kong’s sports development.

Chapter 3: Raising the Games | From Stress Tests to the Global Stage

The operations team of KTSP and government officials take audience behind the scenes, highlighting key moments from stress testing and opening operations to the preparation of international-level events, demonstrating how “Hong Kong’s home venue” officially set sail in the world of mega events.
