This esteemed recognition is held alongside the Best Tall Building award from the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH). These premier accolades affirm the hotel’s status as a global icon and celebrate its holistic approach to creating spaces that nurture the human experience.
This award-winning vision was brought to life by the acclaimed WOHA Architects, who were challenged by the visionary leadership of Dr. Wee Cho Yaw to redefine the concept of a 5-star hotel for the future. The hotel represents a paradigm shift in urban hospitality, integrating architectural innovation, environmental consciousness, and guest wellbeing into a singular, transformative experience.
At the core of the hotel’s design is a groundbreaking four-terrace concept, a vertical ecosystem of wellbeing in the heart of Singapore. The Forest, Beach, Garden, and Cloud terraces are carefully orchestrated environments that invite guests into a multi-sensory journey of restoration and discovery. Each terrace is meticulously conceptualised to reflect a distinct ecological microclimate of Singapore, from the dense, cooling environment of a tropical rainforest in the Forest Terrace to the aspirational urban skyline represented by the Cloud Terrace. The architectural design goes beyond visual appeal, incorporating principles of biophilic design that understand the human being’s intrinsic connection to natural environments.
Sustainability is a profound and interconnected system at Pan Pacific Orchard. The hotel features over 14,000 square metres of greenery (three times its original footprint) that effectively creates a natural cooling system in the heart of the city. This commitment to regenerative design is demonstrated through innovative ecological systems, including 360 photovoltaic panels generating 23,000 kilowatt-hours of clean energy monthly and a sophisticated bio-digester that transforms food waste into cleaning water.
The 343 rooms are conceived as individual retreats, each meticulously designed to reflect and complement its terrace’s unique environmental character. From the Beach Terrace’s serene, sandy-toned spaces to the Cloud Terrace’s ethereal white and gold rooms, every detail is curated to facilitate personal restoration. Even the culinary experience at the signature restaurant, Mosella, exemplifies this holistic approach, with a 10-metre tall dining space inspired by South-east Asian longhouse traditions.
