BENCH AFRICA logoBench Africa is delighted to welcome Lucy Smith as the newest addition to its Business Development team, taking on the role of dedicated BDM for Victoria. Her appointment completes Bench Africa’s Sales team across key regions, reinforcing the company’s commitment to supporting the Australian travel trade. The team now comprises Graham Werner BDM for QLD/NNSW (caretaker for VIC since 2023), Alex Fayan BDM for NSW, Lucy Smith BDM for VIC and Andy Kirkman as Head of Trade Relations, also responsible for the remaining states and territories.

With an industry background as both travel agent and Business Development Manager, Smith brings experience from both sides of the desk. Her travel passion, industry knowledge, and infectious personality make her a perfect fit for Bench Africa, particularly as demand for African travel continues to surge among Australian travellers.

“All I’ve ever wanted to do is travel—experience travel, work in travel, and be part of a community that shares the same passion,” says Smith. “I grew up in a small rural town on a cattle farm, quite sheltered from the world. Leaving Australian soil for the first time was terrifying, but I soon discovered that being culturally shocked was one of my favourite things. Since then, I have travelled to over 30 countries, constantly seeking inspiration—especially through food! I am beyond excited to join the Bench Africa team and help agents showcase the incredible travel opportunities Africa has to offer.”

Andy Kirkman, Head of Trade Relations, expressed his enthusiasm about the appointment: “Lucy joins us at the perfect time. We’re seeing record-breaking bookings and unwavering support from travel agents across Australia. Her industry experience and passion for building strong trade relationships will be instrumental as we continue to grow. With the imminent release of our latest Bench Africa brochure, Lucy’s appointment ensures we are well-positioned to support our agency partners in Victoria and provide them with the tools they need to sell Africa with confidence.”

Smith’s appointment further solidifies Bench Africa’s dedication to the trade, offering agents on-the-ground support as interest in African safaris and tailor-made itineraries soars to new heights.

The news follows the recent Reservations appointment of Africa Expert Paula Dimikos, and Documentation Specialist Alicia Giuffrida. “We continue to welcome new tribe members into the Bench family as the demand for Africa travel is the highest we’ve ever seen.” said Julie De Palo, Reservations & Groups Director.
