In a bold move that underscores the rising demand for seamless air travel between Australia and Türkiye, Turkish Airlines has announced plans to increase its Sydney-Istanbul service to daily flights by January 12, 2026. The airline’s decision comes less than three months after launching its inaugural Sydney service, marking a significant milestone in its global expansion strategy.
Currently operating four weekly flights, Turkish Airlines will progressively expand its frequency throughout 2025. The mid-June upgrade will introduce a fifth weekly flight and a sixth service by late October. By early 2026, the airline will offer a non-stop daily connection between Sydney and Istanbul, contingent on aircraft availability.
The route is currently served by the state-of-the-art Airbus A350-900, with flights operating via Kuala Lumpur. Flight TK174 arrives in Sydney at 19:35, while the return leg, TK175, departs at 21:15. Turkish Airlines’ long-term ambition, however, is to transition the route into a direct, non-stop service to Istanbul, further enhancing connectivity between Australia and Europe.
Strengthening Sydney Airport’s Global Status
This expansion solidifies Sydney Airport’s position as a premier aviation hub, reinforcing its strategic importance in the Asia-Pacific region. Greg Botham, Sydney Airport’s Group Executive, Aviation Growth and Group Strategy, emphasized the significance of this move:
“Turkish Airlines’ decision to ramp up to daily services so soon after launching in Sydney is a tremendous vote of confidence in the strength of the market.
“This expansion will provide even greater connectivity between Australia and Türkiye, benefiting both business and leisure travelers.”
“It confirms Sydney Airport as Turkish Airlines’ leading gateway in Australia, reinforcing our position as the country’s premier international hub.”
“We’re also excited by the prospect of a future non-stop service to Istanbul, which will make travel between our two countries even more seamless.”
Expanding Opportunities for Business and Leisure Travelers
The daily service upgrade aligns with the growing demand for premium connectivity between Australia and Türkiye, catering to corporate travellers and tourists. With Istanbul’s strategic location as a global transit hub, passengers flying from Sydney will enjoy enhanced access to over 340 destinations worldwide via Turkish Airlines’ extensive network.
As international travel demand rebounds, Turkish Airlines’ aggressive expansion underscores its commitment to strengthening global aviation links while enhancing passenger convenience. The upcoming daily flights will further boost the two nations’ tourism, trade, and cultural exchanges.
For travellers eager to experience Türkiye’s rich history, breathtaking landscapes, and vibrant cities, the non-stop Istanbul service represents a game-changer. With world-class in-flight service and seamless connectivity, Turkish Airlines is set to redefine long-haul travel between Australia and Europe.
