Unformed Ceramic & Ikebana Art Exhibition IIUnformed is a unique convergence of ceramic artistry and floral expression, where structure and nature engage in a dialogue of spontaneity. After 13 years since the inaugural Unformed exhibition, the second iteration returns to explore the delicate tension between form and formlessness, inviting unpredictability and creative fusion.

The exhibition presents the works of ceramic artist lead by Bathma Kaew~Ngok together with 19 other students/ceramic artist, and floral expressionist lead by Naomi Daimaru also with 19 other students/floral expressionists, who together transform the traditional dynamics of ceramics and ikebana (the Japanese art of flower arranging). Their collaboration reflects a shared philosophy—”Don’t be modest in flowers, don’t be modest in ceramics”—challenging conventional boundaries and urging both materials to push beyond their forms.

The process itself adds an element of surprise: ceramic students craft their own vessels without knowledge of how ikebana students will respond to their forms. The ikebana artists, in turn, arrange flowers in these handcrafted ceramics without preconceptions, creating an evolving dialogue between earth and bloom, form and nature. The result is an organic fusion where both art forms take center stage, unrestrained and unformed, revealing the tension, beauty, and harmony in the unexpected.

The Essence of “Unformed”: At its heart, this exhibition is about surprise, joy, and the unpredictable nature of creativity. Neither the ceramic artists nor the ikebana artists know exactly how their works will interact, creating a moment of shared anticipation. This spontaneity fosters a sense of heartbeat, excitement, and collaboration, as the audience witnesses the magic of two art forms coming together in a beautiful, unplanned harmony.
