Dubai World Trade Centre Master - logoDubai Exhibition Centre is set to become the most significant purpose-built indoor events and exhibitions venue in the region following an ambitious AED10 billion (US$2.7bn) expansion plan approved by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai. This monumental project is a testament to Dubai’s ongoing commitment to enhancing its status as a global hub for the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) industry.

The expansion forms a core part of the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan and aims to triple the MICE sector’s economic contribution to AED54 billion (US$14.7bn) annually by 2033. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed emphasized the venue’s strategic importance: “This iconic venue will not only become the largest indoor exhibition and events destination in the region but also set new global standards for excellence in the industry.”

The master plan outlines a three-phase development approach, with each stage meticulously designed to accommodate the rising demand for large-scale events and exhibitions. Phase 1, scheduled for completion by 2026, will expand the centre’s current capacity from 58,000 square metres to an impressive 140,000 square metres of exhibition space. Phase 2, set to be completed by 2028, will increase the total exhibition area to nearly 160,000 square metres, accompanied by critical infrastructure upgrades, enhanced road networks, and additional parking facilities.

By 2031, the final development phase will see the Dubai Exhibition Centre reach its full potential, boasting 180,000 square metres of indoor space spread across 26 halls on a contiguous 1.2-kilometre stretch. This extensive configuration will allow the venue to host a single mega event or up to 20 concurrent smaller events, ensuring a versatile and efficient use of space. The expansion also includes the construction of 300+ key hotels, retail outlets, and commercial offices, further cementing its role as a fully integrated event destination.

Helal Saeed Almarri, Director General of the Dubai World Trade Centre Authority (DWTCA), underscored the project’s alignment with the Dubai Economic Agenda D33. “This expansion is a strategic investment that positions Dubai to capture a larger share of the multi-billion dollar MICE industry. With world-class infrastructure and a legacy of successful events, the Dubai Exhibition Centre will redefine the region’s exhibitions and events landscape.”

The AED10 billion investment in the Dubai Exhibition Centre marks a significant milestone in Dubai’s journey to becoming a global event and exhibition leader. The expanded venue will support the emirate’s long-term vision and contribute substantially to its economic diversification efforts.
