Destination Vancouver has gifted a one-of-a-kind Hammock Goal – a hammock crafted from the original goal net used during the Socceroos’ 2-0 victory over Türkiye at BC Place in Vancouver, to Socceroos Active Support – the Socceroos Supporters Group.
The unique piece of football history has been transformed into a symbol of Vancouver’s connection to Australia and an invitation for travellers to return to the city when they want to slow down, recharge, and reconnect.
The Hammock Goal forms part of Recouver in Vancouver, a marketing campaign that introduces a fresh, distinctly Vancouver way to talk about the city’s visitor experience.
Built around the idea that people often leave Vancouver feeling more energised, balanced, and connected than when they arrived, the campaign showcases how city’s unique blend of nature, culture, culinary experiences, and outdoor adventure creates a restorative travel experience.
Royce Chwin, President & CEO, Destination Vancouver, said gifting the Hammock Goal reflects Vancouver’s commitment to deepening ties with the Australian market.
“The Hammock Goal is our way of honouring the shared history created during the World Cup and celebrating the connection Australians feel with Vancouver.
“It takes something that could only have come from that match and turns it into something that could only have come from Vancouver – a city where nature and urban energy sit side by side, and where visitors can genuinely slow down and reconnect”, he continued.
Matt Dawson, spokesperson for Socceroos Active Support (SAS), said: “Vancouver was a huge moment for the Socceroos and every supporter in the stadium. For supporters to receive such a unique piece of World Cup history is incredibly special.
“The Hammock Goal captures a moment that Aussie fans will never forget and transforms it into something that can continue bringing people together.
Destination Vancouver activated the Hammock Goal at the Olyroos international friendly against Korea Republic at polytec Stadium during October, using the installation to connect supporters with Vancouver’s enduring football legacy and the spirit of the Recouver in Vancouver campaign.
