Moreton Bay now has a major destination marathon carrying its name, with City of Moreton Bay and Tourism and Events Moreton Bay today unveiling the new Moreton Bay Jetty 2 Jetty Marathon name and logo.
The new identity firmly anchors one of Queensland’s longest-running events to the City that hosts it, giving Moreton Bay a stronger, more recognisable brand as the marathon is promoted to runners across Australia and around the world.
The change caps a landmark year for the event, that celebrated its 40th anniversary in July with a record 6,000 participants from 12 countries and every Australian state and territory. It was also the first year the full marathon was open to the public, following an invitation-only inaugural marathon in 2025.
The new name also reflects the marathon’s growing international profile, with City of Moreton Bay-led delegations to Japan and New Zealand using the event to connect cities through sport, tourism and participation.
In Japan, the marathon is now linked to the Shizuoka Marathon through a sister marathon relationship, one of the first tangible tourism outcomes of the Memorandum of Understanding between the City of Moreton Bay and Shizuoka City.

City of Moreton Bay Mayor Peter Flannery said the new identity strengthened the connection between the event and the destination it showcases.
“For 40 years, Jetty 2 Jetty has brought people together to celebrate fitness, community and our incredible waterfront. Adding Moreton Bay to the name gives this iconic event an identity that matches the destination it showcases.
“As the marathon continues to grow, the City of Moreton Bay name will put this event in front of new audiences and strengthen our reputation as a place to visit, explore and experience.
“It’s something our community can be proud of, and a strong platform to build on as we look towards Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games and the opportunities that come with it.”
Tourism and Events Moreton Bay CEO Luke Edwards said the new identity gave the City a clearer platform to grow the event as a destination marathon.
“Destination marathons are built on a strong sense of place. Runners travel for the course, the scenery and the story, and now the name tells them exactly where that story happens,” Edwards said.
“With a waterfront course, 40 years of heritage and growing international partnerships, the Moreton Bay Jetty 2 Jetty Marathon is ready to compete with the best destination events in the country.
“A name that carries our City takes Moreton Bay to the world and brings visitors here to stay, dine and explore, which is a real win for local operators and businesses.”
Started in 1986 by Moreton Bay Road Runners, who remain involved today, the event follows one of Australia’s most scenic courses along the Moreton Bay foreshore from Clontarf through Redcliffe, Woody Point and Scarborough. Distances include the full marathon, half marathon, 10km, 10km wheelchair race, 5km and 3km.
This year’s event drew an estimated 9,462 participants and supporters and around 1,830 visitor nights, delivering a significant boost to local accommodation providers, cafes, restaurants and small businesses.
The 2027 Moreton Bay Jetty 2 Jetty Marathon will be held on 18 July 2027, with registrations opening on 2 November 2026.
