After what can only be described as a rather lengthy but, according to John, thoroughly enjoyable media sabbatical spent soaking up the Sunshine Coast and wandering around the world’s corners, John Alwyn-Jones, one of GTM News best-known and most colourful correspondents, is back in the saddle!
And frankly, the travel industry had better watch out!
John is one of those rare characters who can make a discussion about airline schedules, cruise ships or hotel beds sound like the opening scene of an adventure movie. As a lifelong communicator, broadcaster, journalist, commentator, CEO, director, mentor and advisor, John has spent decades travelling the world, telling stories, writing articles, producing videos, asking questions — and occasionally giving people answers they probably didn’t ask for!
With his trademark mix of experience, enthusiasm, humour, and a hint of mischief, John has worked in tourism, aviation, and cruising for decades. He’s seen the highs, survived the lows, and collected enough travel stories to fill several cruise ships.
He’s best known for his sharp observations on the global cruise industry, destinations, and the wider travel business, and he brings an old-school belief in professionalism to everything he does, but thankfully, he doesn’t take himself too seriously.
After all, travel is supposed to be fun.
And John intends to make sure that reading about it is too.
So, what’s coming?
Quite a lot, actually.
Starting shortly, John will bring readers his weekly “John’s GTM Weekly Cruise News and Hot Cruise Deals” special every Thursday, packed with cruise news, deals, industry gossip, observations, and the occasional opinion that may make someone, somewhere, reach for the nearest strong coffee. So send him your information, hot deals, information, story ideas and invitations to [email protected].
And that’s just the beginning.
John will also be hitting the road and taking readers with him through a series of on-location destination programmes covering some of Australia’s hottest domestic and also top international destinations, airlines and cruises, so expect on-location destination reports, hotel and resort reviews, attractions, airline and flight reviews, cruise experiences and reviews and plenty of the unexpected along the way. If you would like to feature your destination, hotel, resort, attraction, cruise, or airline, then contact John at [email protected].
John will also be venturing into the international travel trade-show circuit, reporting from some of the industry’s biggest and most important events, so if you would like John to cover your trade show or event, contact John at [email protected].
And, naturally, he‘ll do what John does best: look behind the scenes, ask the awkward questions, and deliver his well-recognised reviews, updates, features, and views on the issues shaping the travel industry through articles and videos.
He may have been away for a while, but don’t worry, he hasn’t changed!
The enthusiasm is still there.
The opinions are still there.
The travel stories are definitely still there.
And yes… the microphone is switched back on.
So, ladies and gentlemen of the travel world, fasten your seatbelts, secure your tray tables and prepare for take-off.
John Alwyn-Jones is back on GTM News… and something tells us it’ll be quite a ride.
