As part of a joint collaboration between Air Tahiti Nui and Tahiti Tourisme, the TODAY Show has started airing its weather crosses live from The Islands of Tahiti this morning, to build excitement ahead of the launch of the direct Sydney-Papeete route this coming December. Throughout this week, viewers of the show will get a glimpse into this beautiful destination that will soon be even more accessible to Australians.
This morning’s weather crosses showed newly appointed weather host Mia Glover exploring the main island of Tahiti, where she enjoyed a picturesque morning at the InterContinental Tahiti Resort, a visit to a turtle sanctuary, and learned how to make the national dish poisson cru. Mia was also introduced to traditional Tahitian strength games by locals, including stone lifting, coconut husking and racing to climb a coconut tree. These traditional competitions are typically showcased during Heiva, Tahiti’s annual cultural festival held in July.
On the agenda for the rest of the week, the crew will also travel to the iconic Pearl of the Pacific, Bora Bora, for activities including a traditional canoe lesson, a visit to a pearl farm and a stay in an overwater bungalow overlooking the lagoon. The team will finish the week by visiting the adventurous and laid-back island of Moorea, where a local chef will take the host through a live BBQ cooking class, a snorkelling experience at a coral nursery, and a lesson in making a flower lei crown.
The inaugural Air Tahiti Nui flight from Sydney to Papeete will take off on the 15th of December 2026.
The live crosses from The Islands of Tahiti will run each morning this week during the TODAY Show on Channel 9.
