Sunbird Hotels & Resorts, Malawi’s leading hotel group, has joined the Malawi Travel Marketing Consortium (MTMC), strengthening the international visibility of its nationwide hospitality portfolio, and becoming part of MTMC’s collective efforts to promote the country to international travellers.

Sunbird owns and operates nine hotels and resorts across Malawi, including city hotels in Lilongwe, Blantyre and Mzuzu, properties on the shores of Lake Malawi and the iconic Sunbird Ku Chawe on the scenic Zomba Plateau. With a long-standing reputation for hospitality and service, Sunbird has played an important role in the development of Malawi’s tourism industry, welcoming both leisure and business travellers from around the world.

The portfolio serves leisure, business, conference, group and international travel markets, combining accommodation, dining, meetings and events, destination experiences and warm Malawian hospitality. Recent investment has further strengthened the group’s tourism and MICE offering. In 2026, Sunbird opened the Livingstonia International Conference Centre at Senga Bay, while additional rooms at Sunbird Livingstonia increased the resort’s accommodation capacity.

Expanding beyond its established accommodation offering, Sunbird launched Sunbird Tours and Travel in 2024, providing visitors with access to a wider range of travel services and experiences. The operation complements the group’s hotel portfolio, offering travel arrangements, transfers and opportunities to explore Malawi’s diverse attractions, from its national parks and wildlife reserves to its cultural and natural landmarks.

A defining feature of Sunbird Tours and Travel is its commitment to personalised service. The company offers a broad range of travel solutions, including air ticketing, tour packaging, car hire, and accommodation reservations. By taking the time to understand individual client requirements, the team is able to recommend and deliver solutions that align perfectly with customer expectations.

Sunbird Tours and Travel is known for its competitive pricing.  The company is able to offer cost-effective travel options without compromising on quality.

Through MTMC membership, Sunbird will benefit from enhanced international trade representation, digital visibility, travel-trade resources, media exposure and destination marketing. The partnership supports Sunbird’s continued focus on growing international demand while contributing to the wider promotion of Malawi as a competitive leisure, business and meetings destination.

Sunbird’s combination of accommodation and travel services makes it a valuable addition to MTMC’s collection of companies that truly represent The Best of Malawi, bringing additional opportunities to showcase Malawi as a complete destination. Its nationwide presence and established reputation will help strengthen MTMC’s promotion of the country’s tourism offering to international travel operators, agents, leisure and business travellers.

Through its collaborative marketing activities, MTMC is looking forward to working closely with Sunbird to raise awareness of its properties and services, while continuing to promote Malawi as one of Africa’s most rewarding destinations.
