Marriott Fiji has launched the iSausau Vou Leaders Program, a nine-month leadership development initiative designed to identify, develop and elevate local talent across its Fiji portfolio, including Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay, Sheraton Fiji Golf & Beach Resort, Sheraton Denarau Villas and Sheraton Resort & Spa, Tokoriki Island, Fiji.
Created to strengthen Marriott Fiji’s future leadership pipeline, the program aims to accelerate localisation, support the retention of high-potential associates and build a sustainable pathway for emerging leaders across the business. Rooted in Fijian values of unity and collaboration, iSausau Vou is designed around the idea that leadership development is not just about individual progression, but shared success across teams and communities.
The launch comes as Marriott Fiji continues to strengthen its long-term workforce strategy and increase opportunities for local associates to progress into leadership positions across its growing portfolio. As the business continues to evolve, developing leadership capability from within remains a key priority to support future operational excellence, guest satisfaction and sustainable growth.
The inaugural cohort includes 21 associates selected from across Marriott Fiji properties, demonstrating strong interest in leadership development opportunities across the portfolio. Participants represent a broad range of disciplines including culinary, engineering, food and beverage, housekeeping, loss prevention, spa, stewarding, front office, golf, landscaping and reservations. The first cohort is 62% female and 38% male, reflecting Marriott Fiji’s continued focus on inclusive leadership development.
The program commenced on 8 September 2026 and will combine structured learning with practical experience over the nine-month journey. Participants will complete seven management modules covering areas including business basics, performance appraisals, communication, hiring, conflict management and performance management.
The development pathway will also include a one-week placement at a sister property in Fiji, a one-week cross-training rotation in a different department at each participant’s home hotel, mentorship from a member of the Marriott Fiji Leadership Team, and a leader-sponsored project designed to put learning into practice. The program will conclude with final presentations and graduation.
John Douglas, Area General Manager, Pacific Islands, said: “Our people are at the heart of Marriott’s success in Fiji, and iSausau Vou is about creating a clear pathway for talented associates to grow into the next generation of leaders.
“By investing in local capability and giving our people access to mentorship, practical experience and leadership development, we are building a stronger pipeline of Fijian leaders who can shape the future of our hotels and resorts.”
The initiative has been championed by senior Marriott leaders across the Pacific, including Douglas, Regina Kumar, Market Director of Human Resources for the Marriott Fiji portfolio, and Silvano Dressino, General Manager of Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay, who have each played an important role in bringing the program to life.
Kumar said: “Creating visible career pathways is critical to retaining strong local talent. iSausau Vou gives associates the opportunity to broaden their experience, build confidence and see how they can continue to grow within Marriott over the long term.”
Marcel Petzold, Director of Talent Development & HR Shared Services for Marriott Fiji Properties, will facilitate the in-person sessions and work closely with participants throughout the program.
Petzold said: “What makes iSausau Vou valuable is that development doesn’t stop in the training room. Participants will have opportunities to work across different departments and properties, learn directly from senior leaders and apply those skills through real business projects. The aim is to give emerging leaders practical experience, ongoing feedback and the confidence to take the next step in their careers.”
Throughout the program, development will be supported through feedback from senior leaders, participant feedback loops, project sponsor coaching and midway leadership check-ins, helping participants translate formal learning into day-to-day leadership capability.
By creating stronger leadership pathways for Fijians, the program contributes to the continued development of local tourism talent and supports the long-term growth, resilience and competitiveness of Fiji’s hospitality sector.
Through iSausau Vou, Marriott Fiji is continuing to invest in the development of local talent and create stronger pathways for associates to progress into leadership roles, while building the capability required to support the future of its hotels and resorts across Fiji.
