Australians have a new way to turn their online shopping into their next holiday, with ShopBack, Asia-Pacific’s leading shopping and rewards platform, and Velocity Frequent Flyer, the loyalty program of Virgin Australia, announcing a new offering that lets members convert ShopBack Cashback into Velocity Points.

In an Australian first for ShopBack, members can convert $1 of Cashback into 50 Velocity Points, with no service or administration fees. The new offering marks the first time ShopBack has connected an airline loyalty program to the platform in Australia.

Whether it’s Cashback earned from buying groceries, ordering dinner, refreshing a wardrobe or booking a holiday, members can now put those rewards towards flights to more than 600 destinations around the world on Virgin Australia and its partner airlines which include Qatar Airways, Singapore Airlines, United Airlines, Air Canada, ANA and Air New Zealand.

The new offering comes at a time when Aussies have more pressure on the hip pocket than ever before, making it easier for ShopBack members to turn everyday spending into travel.

How it works

  1. Members link their Velocity Frequent Flyer account via the ‘Redeem Cashback’ section of the ShopBack app or website.

  2. Select Velocity Points as their redemption option.

  3. Velocity Points typically arrive within 10 business days.

ShopBack members’ ability to convert their Cashback for Velocity Points joins existing bank transfer (Australian banks only) and PayPal redemption options. Velocity Points redemptions start at $5, with a daily limit of $600. To access the offer, you must have a valid Velocity Membership ID, an active ShopBack account and be a resident of Australia.

Members who do not already have a Velocity Frequent Flyer account can join for free via the Velocity app or website.

Commentary

“Velocity is one of the most loved loyalty programs in Australia, and ShopBack members are some of the most deliberate shoppers in the country. Members earn Cashback across thousands of stores and convert it into Velocity Points with no additional fees along the way,” said Angus Muffet, General Manager, Australia and New Zealand at ShopBack. “This is the first time we have connected ShopBack members to an airline loyalty program in Australia.”

Velocity Frequent Flyer’s Chief Commercial Officer Shanika Ekanayake said the new partnership with ShopBack gives members another simple way to turn everyday spending into their next holiday.

“We’re always looking for new ways to make it easier for our members to earn Points through the spending they’re already doing, and ShopBack is a really exciting addition to Velocity,” she said. “We’re proud to be the first airline loyalty program ShopBack has partnered with in Australia, it means Cashback rewards earned on everything from groceries and fashion to ordering dinner can now be turned into Velocity Points, helping our members get to their next holiday sooner.”
