Lucky skiers and snowboarders were treated to one last hurrah of winter at Cardrona Alpine Resort this morning, with 24cm of fresh snow to kick off their last weekend on the slopes.
Having extended their season by a week, Cardrona remains the last ski area in the South Island still in operation, with Closing Day scheduled for Sunday, October 18th.
Cardrona and Treble Cone Chief Mountains Officer, Laura Hedley, says it’s been a season to remember.

“We had a slow start waiting for winter to arrive, but when it did come, it was all on. We’ve had a massive winter welcoming guests from New Zealand, Australia, and further abroad, hosted world-class events like the Jossi Wells Invitational and The Snow League, and had a spring full of storms and top-ups of snow that saw us right through the end of the season.”
This weekend’s festivities on the mountain include the resort’s annual Bikes on Snow event, the BoomClub Blueprint rail jam hosted by Olympic gold medallist Nico Porteous, and a live DJ set by Shapeshifter’s P.Digsss.
“The weather’s going to be perfect, the snow is looking epic – we’ll see you up here for the last few turns of Winter 2026,” says Hedley.
Cardrona and Treble Cone 2027 season passes, including the new All Seasons pass for both skiing and mountain biking, will be on sale for the best possible rates for just 48 hours just after Cardrona closes, on October 19th.
