HBX Group (HBX.SM), a leading B2B travel technology marketplace, has partnered with Bioscore, a sustainability certification scheme owner and ESG management specialist for the tourism sector, to help more hotels access recognised sustainability certification.
The collaboration forms part of the HBX Group Sustainable Certified Hotels Programme, the company’s wider framework for promoting the adoption and visibility of sustainability certifications aligned with recognised international standards across its hotel portfolio. While the programme already identifies and promotes hotels that hold recognised certifications, the collaboration with Bioscore focuses on helping non-certified establishments to determine whether they have incorporated ESG criteria into their management practices.
Through the partnership, hotel partners interested in certification will be supported by Bioscore in helping them understand the BIOSCORE sustainability scheme requirements and organise the data and evidence needed for independent evaluation. By connecting hotels with dedicated certification expertise, HBX Group aims to make the path towards recognised sustainability certification more accessible and actionable for its partners, particularly small and medium-sized hotel businesses that may not have the internal resources or specialist ESG capabilities to manage the process independently.
The initiative marks the first collaboration of its kind between HBX Group and a sustainability certification scheme owner, supporting the company’s ambition to increase the number of sustainability-certified properties across its portfolio.
Elena Pérez, Chief HR, Comms & ESG Officer at HBX Group, said: “Hotels are facing growing expectations to demonstrate their sustainability progress in a way that is credible and transparent, but navigating the certification journey can be complex. As a partner to hotels around the world, we can help make that journey easier. Through our Sustainable Certified Hotels Programme and our collaboration with Bioscore, we aim to make recognised sustainability certification more accessible to hotels across our portfolio by providing a clear route to expert guidance and support throughout the process”.
The partnership comes as expectations around the transparency and credibility of sustainability claims continue to increase. New EU consumer protection rules, applicable from 27 September 2026, strengthen requirements around environmental claims and sustainability labels displayed to consumers, reinforcing the importance of credible, independently verified certification.
Víctor Monzón, CEO of Bioscore, said: “Hotels need a clear way to substantiate what they communicate, particularly as EU rules tighten restrictions on generic environmental claims and sustainability labels. Through this collaboration, we support HBX Group’s hotel partners throughout the certification process, helping them understand the requirements and organise the data and evidence for evaluation by independent certification bodies”.
The collaboration reflects the growing importance of sustainability certification across the travel industry. HBX Group continues to grow its portfolio of recognised sustainable hotels, responding to market trends that favour certified properties. Through this partnership with Bioscore, HBX Group aims to further strengthen and expand its portfolio of certified hotels, enhancing transparency and helping travellers make more informed accommodation choices.
Participation in the initiative is voluntary for hotels. HBX Group will continue to recognise sustainability certifications aligned with internationally recognised standards and frameworks, including those associated with the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) and Travalyst.
