Museum of Illusions, the world’s largest privately owned museum chain has just announced it is bringing its mind bending mix of entertainment and education to Melbourne.

Taking up residence in the heart of the CBD at Collins Arcade, 260 Collins Street, Melbourne, the museum is set to open to visitors in mid-2027 and will be the second Australian location building on the success of Sydney which opened on Boxing Day 2025.

Museum of Illusions Melbourne will invite Wonder Seekers of all ages to reimagine reality through immersive installations, optical illusions and multisensory experiences that playfully challenge perception.

Kim Schaefer, CEO of Museum of Illusions, said: “The response to Museum of Illusions in Sydney has demonstrated just how strongly Australians connect with experiences that are playful, surprising and genuinely interactive. We are thrilled to be opening a second Australian museum in Melbourne,  a city celebrated for culture, creativity and discovery.

“Collins Arcade puts us in the very heart of the city, where locals and visitors can step inside, challenge their perceptions and share an experience unlike anything else. We can’t wait to open our doors in mid-2027.”

Matthew Woodroffe, Head of Asset Management, Kaipara Property Group said: “Museum of Illusions is an exciting addition to Collins Arcade and to Melbourne’s evolving city-centre experience. Its global appeal, broad audience and immersive offer align perfectly with our vision for Collins Arcade as a destination where retail, hospitality, work and entertainment come together.

Securing a brand of this calibre reinforces the confidence in Collins Arcade and will give Melburnians and visitors another compelling reason to spend time in the heart of the CBD.”

Originally launched in Zagreb, Croatia in 2015, Museum of Illusions now operates in more than 70 locations across 31 countries, captivating millions of guests every year. Each location is guided by one purpose: to create memorable, magical experiences that leave visitors smiling long after they leave.

Further details about the Melbourne museum, including its opening date, ticketing and featured experiences, will be announced closer to launch.
