InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort, which is nestled in 39 hectares of jungle on Central Vietnam’s Son Tra Peninsula, has achieved the rare honour of simultaneously holding a MICHELIN Star and a MICHELIN Key, positioning this five-star sanctuary at the pinnacle of global gastronomy and hospitality.
Earlier this year, La Maison 1888, the resort’s French fine dining destination, was awarded a prestigious MICHELIN Star, making it the only restaurant in Central Vietnam to achieve this accolade. Now, InterContinental Danang has become one of only 21 hotels and resorts in the country to have been awarded a MICHELIN Key, which celebrate the world’s best places to stay.
“A MICHELIN Star signals exceptional cuisine. A MICHELIN Key awards outstanding hospitality. For both to exist under one roof is exceedingly rare. These world-class hotel-restaurant pairings are at the pinnacle of the MICHELIN experience,” MICHELIN stated.
The combination of a MICHELIN Star and MICHELIN Key presents a unique proposition for guests who crave one-of-a-kind experiences. Spanning four distinct levels of a lush forested hillside, cascading down to a crescent-shaped sandy bay, InterContinental Danang envelops guests in a world of natural luxury. Bill Bensley’s original design concept flows through the entire journey, from Tingara, the dramatic teppanyaki restaurant perched in the forest canopy, to Citron, which specialises in regional Vietnamese cuisine and features unique “non-la hat” seating booths. And every aspect of the guest experience is underpinned by authentic, warm Vietnamese hospitality.
Crowning the resort’s culinary portfolio is La Maison 1888, an Indochine-style mansion nestled in the hillside, overlooking the ocean, which has been awarded one MICHELIN Star for its highly artistic “haute couture” inspired menu. Overseen by Chef Christian Le Squer, the doyen of French cuisine who held three MICHELIN stars for 24 consecutive years at leading establishments in Paris, this has become one of the most desirable dining destinations in Vietnam.
“InterContinental Danang’s attention-to-detail, commitment to excellence and personalised service set the resort apart and make it a destination in its own right. The MICHELIN Star we achieved at La Maison 1888 was a testament to our shared vision, and I am delighted that we have now complemented this with a MICHELIN Key. It is a real honour to be part of such an extraordinary resort,” comments Christian Le Squer, Consultant Chef, La Maison 1888.
Moving beyond the restaurants, MICHELIN’s inspectors praised InterContinental Danang for its “mix of rooms, suites and private penthouses and villas [which] take design cues from traditional Vietnamese architecture and come with guaranteed bay views, including from the huge marble bathtubs and large terraces that overlook the gardens and sea”. It also highlighted the “comprehensive spa with a yoga pavilion, tai chi and meditation sessions, and treatments rooted in sound healing and traditional Vietnamese and Thai rituals.”
“To simultaneously hold a MICHELIN Key and a MICHELIN Star has only been achieved by a select few establishments worldwide, so we are truly honoured to join this exclusive club. This reflects our commitment to delivering the highest standards of gastronomy and hospitality under one roof. And yet, it also represents a wider trend: how luxury tourism in Danang and Vietnam is evolving, and how discerning international travellers are now able to enjoy the highest levels of quality, from five-star stays to fine-dining journeys. At InterContinental Danang, we will continue working tirelessly to push the boundaries of excellence and create one-of-a-kind experiences for every guest,” says Seif Hamdy, General Manager, InterContinental Sun Peninsula Resort.
