Villa Sassa, WorldHotels Distinctive in Lugano, Switzerland, is preparing for a major transformation, with owner Dot Life investing more than CHF 40 million in the renovation and modernization of the hotel.
The project will include extensive upgrades to central guest and hospitality areas, as well as the hotel’s technical infrastructure. As part of the transformation, Villa Sassa, WorldHotels Distinctive will further strengthen its positioning as an urban wellness hotel, building on its existing wellness facilities, which include a spa and indoor and outdoor pools.
Located on a hillside above Lugano, the hotel is built around a 17th-century villa and offers views towards Lake Lugano and the surrounding mountains. The property will close from late December 2026 through late April 2027 while the most extensive structural, technical and design work takes place. It is scheduled to reopen in early May 2027, with additional areas to be completed in phases following the reopening.
“This project goes far beyond the immediate renovation. It’s about defining what the hotel should stand for in the coming years,” said General Manager Andrea Buffarello.
The investment in Villa Sassa forms part of Dot Life’s wider commitment of more than CHF 52 million to two historic hotels in Lugano, with more than CHF 12 million also being invested in Villa Principe Leopoldo.
