Fool’s Paradise is in full swing at The Entertainment Quarter for Sydney Fringe Festival, and audiences still have a few weeks to step inside The Bunker and The Virago before the season wraps on Sunday 11 October.
Across its final weeks, the program brings together everything from adults-only acrobatic chaos to family-friendly circus built for school holidays and larger-than-life comedy. There’s a new experience every hour for Sydneysiders to explore, with plenty in the program still left to see before the curtain closes on Fool’s Paradise’s Sydney season.
PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS ACROSS THE FINAL WEEKS
- Return of the GODZ – Hercules, Hermes, Apollo, Dionysus and Cupid return from a sell-out season at London’s Peacock Theatre, with knife-throwing and fire newly added to the mix. Beneath the camp and bare skin is a cast trained at NICA, Flying Fruit Fly Circus and Cirque du Soleil; Limelight calls it “giddily entertaining and genuinely spectacular.”
- All Star Circus – The same Head First Acrobats, with their clothes on. Its biggest cast yet sees seven performers pack human pyramids, one-arm handstands and a giant spinning wheel into a brisk 50 minutes of family circus.
- The Giant Balloon Show – Dizzy O’Dare has been doing this since 2009, across five continents, armed with an ’80s soundtrack and an unreasonable number of balloons. Expect a steady stream of balloon tricks and audience participation, building to the giant red balloon finale that gives the show its name.
- The Flying Bubble Show – A gentler change of pace. Straight off a sell-out Edinburgh season, it swaps slapstick for smoke-filled galaxies and bubbles the size of small children — a mesmerising counterpoint to the program’s bigger circus energy.
- Also still running – Daytime belongs to the families, with wheelie-bin slapstick in Trash Test Dummies Circus, dinosaur wrangling in Jurassic Down Under and slight of hand in The Greatest Magic Show, all playing through to 11 October. After dark, the program shifts gears with queer variety night Left of Centre on 9 October, the R18+ Adults Only Magic Show from 2–10 October and Lady Gaga burlesque tribute, GAGA-ESQUE, closing the season on 10 and 11 October.
Tickets for the final weeks are moving quickly, with school holiday sessions and late-night GODZ shows the first to sell out ahead of closing night on 11 October.
