Virgin Australia wants a bigger slice of Australia’s business travel market. Its latest move is to give its large-company offer a clearer name. It is now called Virgin Australia Corporate Travel.

The program is for Australian businesses that spend more than $500,000 a year on domestic air travel. It offers tailored fare discounts. Each account also gets a dedicated Partner Manager. Eligible travellers can earn Velocity Points and Status Credits, while lounge access is available for travellers who meet the usual entry rules.

The idea is simple. Make the airline’s business travel range easier to understand, because corporate travel already has enough spreadsheets.

For smaller firms, Virgin Australia Business Flyer remains in place. It launched in April 2022 and caters to eligible Australian small and medium businesses spending up to $500,000 a year on domestic air travel.

Above that mark sits Corporate Travel, giving larger firms a more tailored deal and direct account support.

In short, Virgin Australia has drawn a neat line through its business market. That should help travel managers and advisers explain which program fits each client.

Virgin Australia General Manager, Sales, Darren McDermott, said cost pressure was changing how companies buy travel.

“We know businesses are looking closely at how they spend, particularly amid rising inflation,” McDermott said.

And that matters.

A company is not simply buying an airline seat. It is buying time, choice, support and, preferably, an employee who reaches the meeting before the coffee goes cold. A cheap fare can become remarkably expensive when a key appointment is missed.

Virgin Australia is using that point in its pitch.

Corporate Travel includes access to the airline’s domestic network and international airline partners. Travellers can choose Economy, Economy X or Business Class. The Virgin Australia app also offers real-time flight updates, with tools including Journey Tracker, Rapid Rebook and Fly Ahead, subject to eligibility.

Trust and reliability join the sales pitch

The carrier also has some useful recent credentials to place on the corporate negotiating table.

Virgin Australia was named Australia’s Most Trusted Travel & Tourism Brand in the 2026 Roy Morgan Trusted Brand Awards. It marked the fourth consecutive year the airline received the title.

Its cabin crew also won AirlineRatings.com’s World’s Best Cabin Crew award for an eighth consecutive year in 2026. Virgin Australia was also ranked third globally among the publication’s World’s Best Hybrid Airlines.

Then there is reliability, a word that carries considerable weight when the traveller has a board meeting at 9 am.

Federal government data from the Bureau of Infrastructure, Transport and Research Economics shows Virgin Australia recorded a 1.7 per cent cancellation rate during the 2025 calendar year. Jetstar recorded 2.2 per cent, while Qantas recorded 2.7 per cent as an individual operating airline.

Those figures do not measure every aspect of an airline’s performance. They do, however, matter to companies moving people around Australia on tight schedules. Few finance chiefs enjoy paying for an unexpected hotel room because Tuesday morning’s meeting became Wednesday’s apology.

Corporate competition heats up

For travel management companies and corporate travel advisers, the message is clear: Virgin Australia wants more large-business accounts, and it is making the offer easier to sell and explain.

McDermott said: “The new name is just the first step in a broader focus on growing our corporate travel proposition and strengthening our share of the market.”

Virgin Australia says the rebrand is the first in a series of business travel announcements planned for coming months. That makes it more than fresh lettering on corporate stationery.

Businesses are watching costs. Airlines want higher-value travellers. Travel managers want savings without sacrificing schedules, service or support.

The battle for Australia’s corporate traveller, therefore, looks set to get a lot livelier.

And at least this corporate battle comes with lounge access.
