Taj has again reached the top tier of global luxury hospitality, with Brand Finance naming the celebrated Indian hotel marque the world’s strongest luxury hotel brand for 2026.

The result appears in Brand Finance’s Hotels 50 2026 report. According to parent company Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL), it is the fifth time Taj has secured the luxury-brand honour. Taj achieved a Brand Strength Index (BSI) score of 93.5 out of 100 and an AAA+ rating. Its brand value also jumped 32 per cent to US$878 million.

One useful footnote for industry readers: Vinpearl ranked as the world’s strongest hotel brand overall, with a BSI score of 95.4. Taj ranked second overall but remained the strongest luxury hotel brand. Meanwhile, Hilton Hotels & Resorts retained its position as the world’s most valuable hotel brand.

For Taj, the result shows the commercial power of heritage when it is kept fresh. The brand continues to trade on Indian tradition, personal service and high-end experiences rather than chasing fashion for fashion’s sake.

IHCL Managing Director and Chief Executive Puneet Chhatwal said: “For over a century, Taj has been the embodiment of Indian hospitality for the world.”

He said the recognition reflected Taj’s legacy and its continued relevance to travellers across generations and markets, while also crediting the company’s 50,000-plus associates for maintaining the service values behind the brand.

Brand Finance Chairman and CEO David Haigh described Taj’s continuing recognition as “a remarkable achievement”, noting its ability to build global stature while remaining firmly tied to its cultural identity.

IHCL says Taj has a portfolio of 150 hotels across 14 countries, spanning grand palaces, city hotels, beach and spa resorts, wildlife safaris and serviced residences.

The luxury sector loves a new opening, a rooftop bar and an acres-of-marble lobby. Taj’s 2026 result suggests something rather less flashy still matters enormously: a clear identity, trusted service and the discipline to deliver both, day after day.
