Alone Australia runner-up and wilderness guide Suzan Muir will host a special Women, Wild & Wise journey with Tasmanian Expeditions, bringing a small group of women together on Tasmania’s Flinders Island from 7 to 12 March 2027. The six-day experience combines wilderness walking with workshops, conversation and time to slow down and reconnect with nature, drawing on Muir’s decades of off-grid living, guiding and hard-won lessons in resilience, confidence and self-trust.

Muir became known to an international audience as runner-up on Season 2 of Alone Australia, where she endured 63 days alone in extreme wilderness conditions. While half of the contestants lasted fewer than 10 days, Muir remained through hunger, illness and freezing conditions, demonstrating the calm, resourcefulness and gratitude that have long shaped her relationship with wild places.

Together with her husband, legendary adventurer Jon Muir OAM, who has summited Everest, reached both Poles and crossed Australia on foot, Muir lives off-grid in the remote Grampians in Victoria. The couple has spent years guiding immersive wilderness experiences and helping others develop the practical skills, confidence and self-reliance to spend time in nature.

For Muir, there is particular value in bringing women together in these environments.

“There is something very powerful about women spending time together in the wild,” Muir said. “When we step away from the noise and demands of everyday life, we create space to listen, to notice what is around us and to learn from each other. Intentional contemplation within Nature deepens our sense of belonging, safety and awe.”

Women, Wild & Wise follows Muir’s previous hosted wilderness experience on the Larapinta Trail, which left a lasting impression on participants, with one describing the experience as “incredibly special and profound”.

Flinders Island provides a striking new setting for the concept, with its granite mountains, sweeping beaches and remote coastline creating a natural environment for walking, reflection and conversation.

Based on Tasmanian Expeditions’ Flinders Island in Comfort itinerary, the program has been specially adapted to allow more time for the workshops and conversations Muir will lead. Some walking and activities have been reduced, creating a slower-paced, centre-based journey where discussions can unfold naturally throughout the six days.

Rather than focusing simply on covering kilometres, Muir will draw on her own experiences to explore how we live with nature, the confidence that can come from spending time in wild places and how this relationship deeply supports our self-trust, resilience and gratitude.

The six-day Women, Wild & Wise: Tasmania’s Flinders Island with Suzan Muir departs 7 March 2027 and is priced at AUD $4,990 per person twin share. Single-use tents are available for solo travellers at no additional charge, subject to availability.
