Alaia Belize, Autograph Collection, is expanding its commitment to sustainable, experiential travel through a new partnership with Mote Marine Laboratory, a globally recognized marine science and conservation organization. From November 23–29, 2026, Mote educators will host a weeklong Marine Conservation Residency at the resort, offering interactive programming designed to connect guests of all ages with the most iconic ecosystem in Belize, “the Great Belize Barrier Reef,” through hands-on learning, exploration, and immersive experiences.
Situated on Ambergris Caye with direct access to the Belize Barrier Reef Reserve System, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Alaia Belize offers a natural setting for marine discovery. The residency builds on the resort’s commitment to creating experiences that encourage guests to explore Belize’s natural environment while gaining a deeper understanding of the importance of marine conservation and responsible travel.
“Belize’s marine environment is one of the country’s greatest treasures, and we believe travel has the power to foster a deeper connection to the places we visit,” said Scott McArdle, vice president of hospitality for Alaia Belize. “Our partnership with Mote allows guests to experience the reef beyond recreation – through education, exploration, and meaningful interactions that deepen their understanding of the work being done to protect it.”
Throughout the residency, Mote educators will host two to three interactive family programs daily, inviting children and families to explore marine science through hands-on STEM activities, art projects, and research-inspired experiences. Guests will discover the fascinating world of coral reefs, sea turtles, sharks, and other wildlife while learning how scientists and conservationists are working to understand and protect Belize’s marine ecosystems.

The programming extends to adults with Cocktails & Conversation: Happy Hour Ocean Trivia, a lively evening experience combining marine science, storytelling, and friendly competition. Inspired by Mote’s research, the program explores topics ranging from coral restoration and shark and ray conservation to sea turtle protection and the biodiversity that makes Belize one of the world’s most remarkable marine destinations.
The collaboration will also extend to an exclusive Marriott Bonvoy Moments experience, offering Marriott Bonvoy members the opportunity to bid on curated family getaway packages that include a stay at Alaia Belize and a semi-private Beyond the Reef excursion aboard the resort’s REEL Escape. Led by Mote educators, the experience will take guests beyond traditional reef exploration with snorkeling at Hol Chan Marine Reserve and an up-close look at the remarkable marine ecosystem and biodiversity of the Belize Barrier Reef.
“We’re excited to partner with Alaia Belize to bring marine science directly to travelers in one of the world’s most extraordinary reef ecosystems,” said Dr. Aly Busse, Mote Vice President of Education. “By combining hands-on education with unforgettable experiences in and around the reef, we hope guests of all ages leave with a deeper understanding of the ocean and the important role they can play in protecting it.”
Together, the residency and Marriott Bonvoy Moments experience offer travelers new ways to engage with Belize’s marine environment, pairing a Caribbean getaway with opportunities to learn directly from the organizations working to study and protect it.
